Tennis Racquets - General Tips & Comments

Newest Review: ... has very catered needs so an expensive tennis racquet is required. For an amateur, even the cheapest racquet will do. Go to Lilywhites in Piccadilly Circus in London and one can buy a decent beginners racquet for approx £15. For those who want to play a more competitive level of tennis I would recommend a slightly more expensive racquet in the region of £50. Still, even for this level of tennis player a £150 tennis racquet is unnecessary. In reality the initial purchase of a tennis racquet is only the first stage since tennis racquets come out the factory with very poor stringing. I recommend having the racquet restrung immediately. Premium Review Tennis Racquets - General Tips & Comments: Your guide to the perfect tennis racquet (256 words)

It seems that the average tennis player spends far more money on tennis racquets and equipment than necessary. Before one buys an expensive racquet one should have mastered the basic strokes and be able to hold a rally hitting the ball at least 20 times. On the other hand a tennis pro has very catered needs so an expensive tennis racquet is required. For an amateur, even the cheapest racquet will do. Go to Lilywhites in Piccadilly Circus in London and one can buy a decent beginners racquet for approx £15. For those who want to play a more competitive level of tennis I would recommend a slightly more expensive racquet in the region of £50. Still, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Choosing The perfect tennis racket (519 words)

Choosing a new tennis racket is a very big decision in deed. You could just choose a racket that looks good (pot-luck). I would not advise this as the racket could work for you but on the other hand it could just put a hole in your pocket. When choosing a racket you need to take a few things into account: You have to ask yourself what type of swing you have, if your swing is long and fast I would recommend a control racket as you are getting all the power from the swing and you just need a bit of control. I would choose rackets like Head liquid metal prestige, Wilson N61 tour or the Prince NX Tour Graphite MP. If your swing on the other ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tennis Racquets - General Tips & Comments: lead tape & sweet spots (500 words)

I used to do a lot of racket customisation for players looking for an increase in the size of sweetspot without altering the feel of their raket too much. The key issue involved is the swing weight of the equipment. If you imagine two poles 60cm long with 100grams of lead positioned on them, one with all the weight at the tip and one with the weight at the handle end, you will find they feel different when swung. This is a feature of swing weight. Babolat make a machine that can give a good measure of this, if you can find anyone that has one! Failing this, taking a measure of the balance point of your racket before making an alterations to the weight can aid in keeping ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Hmmmmm, so many options! (1200 words)

When it comes to buying tennis racquets, there are many options that you have to consider. The main governing feature when choosing a tennis racquet for most people is the price. It is possible to get a tennis racquet for £10, but obviously they're not very good. I would never suggest paying more than about £180 for any tennis racquet because it's just not worth it. You get to a certain point in the tennis racquet range where you are paying just for novelty features and massive power. I don't honestly believe that there are any tennis players in this world that need the power that something like the Head TiS6 has to offer. I had a go with one of these ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tennis Racquets - General Tips & Comments: Decisions Decisions Decisions!!! (289 words)

When you are going to buy a new tennis raquet, there are several decisions that you must take: Firstly where are you going to look for it from. I recommend that you go to a specialist sports shop which has a person who can advise on what racquet you need for your type of play. They will have a broad knowledge of tennis as a game, and also the shop will give you a wider range of racquets to choose from Secondly, what type of player are you- do you have power and need control or do you want the racquet to do the work for you. For the former you have got to be looking for a racquet with a smaller head size, preferably made from graphite (although there ...  Read the complete review
