Advantages: Lethal, can be practised as a martial art, entertaining

Disadvantages: Modernisation has taken the intense damage factor away

Muay Thai is a variation of kicboxing which also has a totally different style to it, and after being taught by a muay thai expert it is lethal.
The basic's are this, two people in a one on one combat ring, and it's not anything goes but a lot of moves are allowed in Muay Thai.
Elbows are allowed in Thai Boxing unlike in Kickboxing and there are no gloves in a traditional thai boxing match. Also there are not mouth guards in a conventional Thai boxing match.

The contestants battle it out in the ring wearing nothing but shorts and the match will continue until one boxer is knocked down or unable to continue. However modernisation of the sport has now forced amatuers to wear headguards, mouthguards and gloves.

My opinion on Muay thai is simple - modernisation has ruined the action once again, the fun in muay thai was watching the devestating blow's that chinese orientated martial arts can deliver. With the gloves and guards the whole process seems more safer which is not what muay thai was intended for at all. It was to be a lethal mixed martial arts stance however the danger has been seen and eliminated.

Some countries still hold traditional Thai Boxers, if you search around you will see how dangerous muay thai is.
