Thermos Sports Bottle Hydro Active
Advantages: Thermos - good make, cheap, robust , nice gimmick
Disadvantages: Too much hassle, too heavy to jog with
Most people who are active in regular sport or those that love going to the gym will have a hydration bottle...or if your like me and forget it regularly and end up buying a bottle of Lucozade sport ! But generally i do use this bottle to hydrate and also to hold my protein shake in too for the end of my workout. Its main feature is that its outer shell has the ability to hold water, which can then be frozen and this outer shell then keeps the inner liquid cool.
This is a great little light hydration bottle, it comes in a variety of colours , dark grey, pink and blue depending on how secure you are with your sexuality and more practically whats available in the store. You can also get this bottle in two sizes, a smaller 450ml size and a larger 700ml size. I found that the hydration bottle 700 ml size is great for my protein shakes.
The bottle itself is a hard resin plastic and has a small tube inside of it, to fill up the outer shell bottle you just have to remove the tube from the indside, fill the bottle with water and nothing else ! Once frozen, this section will be full of ice and this sits in the middle of the container and this keeps the other liquard, sport drink or protein shake nice and cold..
The bottle is robust hard resin and will bounce if dropped so you wont be able to break it easily. Its fairly ergonomic and has rubberised grip sections for you and so its easy to hold when you have sweaty hands. The bottle is a little difficult shape wise and its wide at the top so it is difficult to run with unless oyu have bigger hands. The weight of the bottle is also heavier as the ice blockin the middle does give it quite allot of extra weight, along with the liquid in there, rather then just liquid on its own - so it isnt for holding whilst running , just to hold whilst resting or keeping it on the floor, in the treadmill etc.
To wash the bottle you only need warm soapy water depending on what you put in it, you should just be putting water in the inner tube and once this melts its easy to clean. But it can be a bit fiddly to clean both the outer and inner elements. The lid is easy to open and therefore it is easy to refill the bottle, as is the lid of the inner ice tube, in terms of removing and refilling. It uses a rubberised locking vaccum syste to lock and so most of you will be familiar with this and so you know it does not leak until the rubber starts to degarde after a couple of years (in my experience).
There is a flip lid top, which keeps everything where it should be , but I dont like this type of lid I like the cycling popper type of lid and not the lid top becaus eyou have to hold it open whilst your drinking and this becomes annoying very quickly and can fell uncomfortable on the face.
This is a pretty cheap bottle for £4 from Amazon or Ebay, most sports bottles you buy will cost this much so its good value, and most dont even have the whole Henieken plastic beer pitcher ice cooler system, which is a nice touch I think....I just think its a little too much bother and some people wont bother with it, plus it doesnt let ice go all the way to the topa nd so the first bit of the drink will not be ice cold , only the lower parts of the drink, so this is a case of a great idea but it is it really worth it.
Summary: Not bad for a gimmicky idea, but can only be used in the gym and not moving
