Not for racing, or rallying, maybe, but for all-day cruising; that is what it was designed for. It is built for comfort, and consequently, not necessarily for speed. The larger, than standard, fork offset (1.75 inches) accounts for the relaxed feel and no doubt contributes to the stability and added confidence you gain when aboard, increasing your average speed. If like me, you think mountain biking is about 'touring around' and not 'roaring around' off-road; then you need to look for a frameset like the WTB Phoenix, which may well have been superceded by now (any knowledge?; please forward). I have to confess I am out of touch with the modern scene, I get out there and do it; don't read about, talk about, just do it..
