Salomon 1080 (Teneighty): ... will never ski on any other ski than these. I love them to pieces. In the 1999/2000 season, Salomon intrigued the ski market by introducing the first twin-tip ski for the consumer. A twin-tip ski is one that is raised at both the tip and the tail, allowing the skier to ski backwards as well as forwards. These skis heralded a revolution in the ski industry, which other ski manufacturers have joined. Despite th...

... heres a ski I like. Its short, its fat at the tail and tip, its narrow under foot and does everything you could want for onpiste skiing if you are dynamic energetic skier. Short turns are where this one excells, get low and balanced over your feet and let this ski do the turning under you. You have to be prepared for the speed at which these whip round or you will be thrown on your heels. You want to like your slalom turns to get take these, there are better all round piste cruisers out there (Salomon Pilots for instance) but they are what you need for high adrenalin carving. Of course, ski em short, I would suggest just the right height to poke you in the nose in th...

... have done it again. It terms of styling and image the Pilot 10 (and the 8 for that matter) are unmatched this year. Whoever is in the design department knows how to make skis that will stand out and be noticed. Perhaps more importantly though is how they ski. A wide tip and a soft flex make for a fun ski to use. Fast, cruising, carving turns and the edge grip is great. Short turns are easy and effortless. However short, fast aggressive turns and you notice that these are not stiff in the tail, and lack support but if you notice that, then you'd probably be better of on a higher performance ski anyway (check out the Rossi 9S TPower!). The idea of side mounted...

... learned to ski many years ago and, like most skiers I expect, relied on hired equipment each year. I suppose our view was that it was better to break someone else's kit than our own. As we got better we realised that there are advantages to having you own equipment, at least, your own boots. So we bought those first (Salomon). We've been using them now for around 10 years. They're definitely out-of-style but they're comfortable and they work so why change them? They've been a great investment. Next we decided to buy skis; we felt we were now good enough. It avoided the usual rugby scrum at the hire shop at the beginning of the holiday and...
