Advantages: cheap equipment
Disadvantages: 1 or 2 day wait
i dont know but maybe its just me that has this, well you could say obsession with extream sports. i've been skateboarding for a couple for years now and i know that the only problem with all of these sports is the price! it can be extreamly costly if you dont buy form the right place. Many of these high street stores are the most expensive and the only reason they buy form it is because it is convenient and close to home. What people dont know is that the internet has many good skatboards and sport equipment at extreamly good prices. yes that right the internet is the place to buy your next deck or what ever you want. every one knows that America, things are cheaper thatn England and that we vant buy them, well now we can. search for what ever you are looking for and there it is the cheapest equipmet you can buy. i hope this has been a great help!

- 01/03/02 Its not quite that simple to buy from the states.
When the goods arrive in the UK they come with a customs declaration attached from the U.S postal service.
UK Customs and Excise then calculate import tax not only on the declared value of the goods but also on any postage and insurance costs.
Then they impose VAT as well.
Then the Post Office charges a 6 quid handling charge.
And finally they will not release the parcel to you until you pay that lot up front.
Therefore something which actually costs you 50 dollars to buy in the first place can end up taking 100 dollars out of your pocket.
Everythi ng has a different taxation band however sporting goods are liable to a tax of 22% of the total cost including postage (which isn't cheap if you want it quickly), plus vat, plus handling at the standard rate's.
All bad news....well not quite. If something is a gift and the parcel is marked appropriately then you are ok, however it is very illegal to have something marked as a gift if it isnt and the penalties are huge. Customs are also allowed to open your goods to have a look and make their own judgement.
This doesnt apply to the EU, but their board sports goods are expensive as ours very often. |
