Advantages: Cheap in comaprision to competitors (

Disadvantages: Bulky, not for losing weight

What is it?
The york body gym is a piece of home fitness equipment. It composes of a black "board" which moves up and down the device, some pulleys, and some rope, with handles. The way the equipment works is that you sit on the board, and use your hands to pull the handles. This causes the board to rise up the track. This means that you "work against your own weight". The steepness of the track can be altered by a peg at the back of the equipment, in 5 "levels". This way, you can work your way up to the highest steepness and thus the more work for your muscles!

Now obviously there are many different ways to sit on and pull the ropes, so there is an included "wall poster" style bit of paper, which shows all the different methods. I think there are around 30-40 odd different methods, each one working a different set of muscles. Some don't use the ropes at all, and instead you use your legs.

The York Bodygym also folds up into a little package, although folding and unfolding the gym is hard work, as it is quite heavy. I just leave it unfolded myself, so if you are planning on buying it, make sure you can accommodate it unfolded all the time.

I got mine a few years back for around £60 from argos. I imagine it is probably a bit cheaper now.

There are a few disadvantages.
Firstly, this won't help you lose weight really, it will only help you build muscles. If you want to lose weight, get a rowing or running machine.

And secondly younger people can't really use this (14 and under) because of the moving parts, and other various hazards.

So overall?
If you have the room, and want a relatively cheap way to get stronger, then this is for you. Its cheaper than a decent set of free weights which can cost up to £1000 in some cases, and all the other expensive muscle building equipment.

Summary: If you got the room, and want something like this, then this is the cheapest you can get really

They're also quite good for keeping clothes on, as most owners seem to find out in the end... :)
