Advantages: Strong, Rigid, Comfortable
Disadvantages: Price
When it comes to weight training and handling free weights, it is always best to do it supervised if you are a novice. It is also best to get some tuition. However, one thing you will soon learn is that there are only so many exercises you can do standing up or sitting down. Soon you will need to perhorm chest presses or shoulder raises in a lying or sitting position. You may even want to start exercising your legs. So what you need is a bench. What better bench that one that has been around for years, is proven, adjustable, sturdy and downright popular. So this is the main reasoning behind my York Weights bench purchase. York make a variety of weights benches from the basic rigid one piece bench, right up to the full adjustable, multi functional benches with weights supplied. My bench is somewhere in the middle and costs £120. They start as little as about £50 though and go up to £350+!!! So what is my bench made of? It is made from Rigid steel Tubing that can easily support the weight of yourself and the weights you are going to lift. This can be an extreme amount of combined weight so you need to know its strong enough to take it. This copes easily with no breakable components. The feet for the legs are covered in rubber to prevent slippage when working out and damage to your floor. The part you lie on is a cushioned board covered in wipe clean vinyl. Good for getting the sweat off and very comfortable and grippy. There are no sharp edges to irritate or rub you during exercise. What does it do? Well it something you work on rather than do. It has many different parts to it though for the different exercises. Firstly, mine has a split level cussion so the back can be folded up or positioned flat. This allows you to stretch out fully or sit upright or a variety of positions between the 2. At the "Feet" end of the bench is a leg curler. Again this is padded and allows the user to posit
ion their ankles or feet under the curler and lift weights which can be attached to the front of it. Good for building your calfs and Thighs. At the "head" end of the bench is the barbell support. This comprises of 2 long upright bars with weight rests on top. These are V shaped to hold the barbell safe above you when not lifting. Again they are strongly constructed to hold the weight. Overall. This is a great bench. Sure you can use a bench from a breakfast table if you want but it is not going to be as good or as safe as a proper weights bench. Go for a York one as they last and they are very strong. you are garaunteed quality here.
