      great first pair of skates!

For my daughters 6th birthday she recieved some money from her friends instead of presents at her birthday party. She decided she wanted to buy some roller blades and some safety pads with this money after seeing some of her older friends from our street gliding around on theirs.

When she mentioned this to me I spotted these in Argos as well as some Hello Kitty ones - my daughter picked these ones as they looked more "grown up" with the pink and zebra design - I agreed, they looked very cool in the catalogue!

      Who are they suitable for?

The argos catalogue states the skates are suitable for ages 5 upwards and shoe sizes 13-3 - As previously mentioned my daughter is 6 but is very small for her age, feet included. She is a size 11. However by wearing a thick pair of socks they seem to fit her perfectly and she never complains about discomfort. The padding is also very thick insidethe skates. One great thing about these blades is that there is a tab above the feet just below the bottom strap on the skates that you can pull up and tighten if the skates are slack which really helps.

      Appearance

As previously mentioned me and my daughter both loved the design - they look very funky. The outside of the skates are light and darker pink and the internal padding which stick out is zebra printed. The wheels are made out of plastic which are transparent with a pink of pink showing through. The straps each have tabs on the opposite sides to tighten and can easily be fastened in place with the black tabs - if my 6 year old daughter can do it I'm sure many other kids the same age can too! There is also a brake for easy stopping the the rear of each skate - this works really effectively and to date my daughter has had no accidents because she has used this (fingers crossed!).

      My Verdict

Overall I think these are great for a first pair of skates. My daughter loves wearing them and loves enjoying to skate with her friends. The design looks lovely - can't fault them at all - and to date we have not had any problems with damage - apart from the normal wear and tear scratchs that you would expect! If your childs shoe size is smaller than quoted I think if they are size 11 upwards like my daughters you won't have a problem due to the thick padding and adjustable fasteners.

You can also buy arm, knee and knuckle pads for your kids which I would recommend if you are going to let your child skate - these can be picked up between £10-20 depending on where you get them which are readily available!

      Price & Availability

These skates can be found in Argos for £19.99 at the time of writing this review and I believe this is around the price we got them for. Argos stores can be found nationwide and we had no problem picking these up same day from our local Argos store in Cumbria so I am confident other people will be able to get them no problem.
