Advantages: Quick and easy and the motivation is great
After getting Christmas out the way I decided that now was the time to start getting into shape and stop expecting just healthy eating to get me where I wanted to be. Toning up was what I needed so a friend and I decided to join our local gym and do something about it. I love the gym but sometimes due to being a busy bee I find it difficult to get there as much as I would like so I set out to find a good fitness DVD that would give me a challenge when I was at home. My friend kindly offered to lend me the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred DVD warning me that it was very hard.
I have loved Jillian Michaels after first discovering her as a trainer on the biggest loser USA and I knew that her fitness DVD would be hardcore but that's exactly what I wanted. I needed something that would push me hard and give me good results.
Things you will require before starting:
Small hand weights
Exercise mat especially for hard floors
The 30 day shred DVD consists of 3 different levels of workout depending upon how fit you actually are. It is recommended to start with level 1 and work your way up when that becomes a bit too easy. Each work out is based upon strength, cardio and abs and each category lasts for 20 minutes of nonstop movement.
Each workout consists of:
One 2 minute warm-up
Three 6 minute intervals of the cardio, strength and abs (known as the 3-2-1 system
3 minutes of strength
2 minutes cardio
1 minute abs
One 2 minute cool down
When I first read the back of my DVD I must admit I though it wasn't going to be as high intensity as I had hoped with it only being a 20 minute exercise but once I got started I realised how hard it actually was. Jillian keeps you moving constantly doing things like, sit-ups, push-ups, star jumps, skipping and stretching and after about 5 minutes I was puffing and panting. The motivation from Jillian is also great as she keeps reminding you that you can lose the weight if you want to but it won't happen by sitting around.
I do feel a difference since starting this DVD a few weeks ago as the following day my legs and shoulders are absolutely killing me (this gets easier the more you use it) and I really feel like I have had a good workout. I have noticed that I am losing weight quicker than I was using the gym alone and since you are working hidden muscles in this DVD I feel I lot tighter especially around my chest and thighs.
I would definitely recommend this DVD to anyone no matter what the weight issue or even just to tone up. I love it and I can't wait to try more by Jillian Michaels. I will definitely continue to use this DVD, You are guaranteed a good workout that only needs 20 minutes of your time and the kids can join in too for fun.
