... country and the teams development over nearly 60 years and for the most part he is understated, intelligent and informative. The footage as you would expect varies, from 1930 until 1970 we are treated to grainy black and white footage, but even the monochrome visuals fail to hide some dazzlingly beautiful football, there isn't much of it, but what there is, is utilised nicely, my only complaint would be that I understand the World Cup win in 1958 is considered by many Brazilians to have been one of their greatest, in p...more

I have had this DVD for a few years as I'm a huge fan of the history of World Football, this follows the Brazilian team from 1930 through to 1986, it was originally released by the BBC on VHS Video, which I also have. I came across this on the Dooyoo site and saw that the only other reviewer had given this DVD 1 out of 5 stars, I have to admit to having been somewhat astonished as it's not the greatest DVD ever but is definitely not a bad one. It turns out the other reviewer is making a rather (Bad) attempt at explaining the lack of quality of the Nazi catching movie of the same name. Please be assured this DVD is all about Pele, Garrincha, Socrates, Zico ...  Read the complete review

Shamelessly average DVD (105 words)

The Boys From Brazil, an excellent Nazi Clone thriller from director Franklin J. Schaffner, has become a good example of how not to make a DVD. Carlton have released the film in their single classics range, but the quality is a joke. Firstly, the film is incorrectly framed in widescreen at 1.85:1 instead of 2.35:1. Secondly, the picture is not anamorphic, which nowadays is a crime. The sound is in mono and the complete lack of extras whatsoever suggest that even at £9.99 this isn't worth the money. There's nothing more to say except buy the video as you get the same product for less money.  Read the complete review
