      Fantastic ppv

WWE One Night Stand 2008 was another strong PPV by the WWE last year which lived up to its hype.

      Match Card/ Review

      Falls Count Anywhere Match
      Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
This match had started of well with fighting going all over the ring, the arena and also backstage to. They eventually ended up fighting backstage near the trucks which saw an crazy ending which looked a little too fake if you ask me.

Singapore Cane Match for ECW Title Shot at Vengeance
Big Show vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. Chavo Guerrero
Bigshow in the match took one heck of a really bad shot with the Singapore cane. The match saw all the wrestlers take brutual shots but it was mostly The Bigshow who took them all.It was a decent match to watch not too good.

      First Blood Match
      John Cena vs. JBL
John Cena is an great wrestler but JBL isnt. These two can not work together in the ring. JBL was very slow in the ring whilst Cenas pace was quick if you ask me. Crowd were not into the match at all the only time they were was when Cena came out to the ring.

      I Quit Match
      Beth Phoenix vs. Melina
This was actually one of the best womens matches on PPV of 2008. The two wrestlers really took it to each other and put on a good match.

      Stretcher Match
      Shawn Michaels vs. Batista
Brutual match great performance from both wrestlers if you ask me. Batista made sure HBK suffered for his actions at Backlash. The match had strong chemistry between the two wrestlers and it had an sick ending.

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Title
      Triple H vs. Randy Orton
This match was suppose to be a good one and was doing well until Randy Orton suffered an real life injury. He injured his collarbone in the match which meant the match was short finished.

TLC Match for the World Heavyweight Title(should Undertaker lose he has to leave the WWE)
      Undertaker vs. Edge
Wow is one word to describe this match up fantastic match with great spots. Undertaker and Edge really took it to each other with the use of chairs, tables and ladders. Some brilliant bumps in the match its a shame the ending had a couple of cheaters coming to help Edge. It was though an classic main event match.

A great WWE PPV if you ask me was One Night Stand shame to see the Orton HHH match in disappointment but everything else was pretty good to watch.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A good selection of bouts

One Night Stand is the one event every year you can rely on to be pretty nuts and over the top, and once again they deliver with some loopy gimmick matches.

The show opens with a Falls Count Anywhere match between Jeff Hardy and Umaga. It's a pretty crazy match, winding up outside the arena where Hardy goes particularly nuts, resulting in a fun end even if it's clearly very staged.

The second bout is a Singapore Cane on a Pole match between The Big Show, John Morrison, CM Punk, Chavo Guerrero and Tommy Dreamer, with the winner getting an ECW Championship shot against Kane at the next PPV. This is a chaotic and intense bout tat pulls out all the stops and has a satisfying end.

Third is a pretty hokey First Blood Match between John Cena and JBL. It is very predictable and isn't as daring or as exciting as these matches usually are. It's also far too long given the wrestlers involved, lasting about 15 minutes!

Beth Phoenix and Melina face off in an I Quit match, but curiously the bookers did not go with a Women's Title bout, so the stakes are curiously low. However, it is quite lengthy for a women's fight and is surprisingly good as a result.

In a Stretcher Match, Batista and Shawn Michaels slug it out, in the best match on the card; an intense slugfest that goes back and forth but manages to keep the feud going in a convincing way.

Next up is a Last Man Standing match for the WWE Championship, with champ Triple H defending against Randy Orton. It's a totally brutal match and has each man raising the stakes as the match progresses.

Finally, in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match, Edge and The Undertaker fight for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. This is a great match with a spectacular ending that should satisfy fans of both wrestlers.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Not bad

This year WWE has decided to change its product to aim at a more PG type audience, which means that One Night Stand 2008 was the last event of its name, as they thought it was too "suggestive". This year is it called Extreme Rules. However the will be the same as last year - all the matches fit some sort of extreme gimmick.

ONS 08 was a bit hit/miss really - the headline was a fantastic Tables, Ladders and Chairs match with Undertaker and Edge. Jeff Hardy and Umaga also tore the house down in a very innovative Falls Count Anywhere match in an excellent opener, to put an end to their short feud.

The ECW 5 Way seemed thrown together and nobody seemed to care about it, which was a shame because this card was based around the original reemergence of ECW. Michaels vs Batista was dissapointing but sparked the beginning of the Michaels Jericho feud which was the highlight in WWE throughout 2008.

All in all, not a bad card but could have been a lot better.

One of the best WWE PPV's of 2008

WWE One Night Stand is a recent addition to the PPV roster after its initial 2005 show which was to celebrate the legacy of Extreme Championship Wrestling. Since then it has been incorporated into the monthy line-up.

WWE One Night Stand 2008 shows why the PPV has been a success, primarily because of the 'extreme rules' gimmick (every match has a special stipulation). This is a great show and without doubt, one of the highlights of 2008.

      Lets review the show:

-- Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga (Falls Count Anywhere) --
This is a surprisingly good opener, these guys are no strangers to eachother - this probably being the best match between them. The brawl even goes to the outside of the arena which you sadly don't see much of in this era. 7/10

-- The Big Show vs. CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Tommy Dreamer (Singapore Cane match) --
As the stipulation suggests, this is pretty brutal stuff with quite a lot of creative spots. This is an enjoyable match if you are into this level of hardcore wrestling. 6/10

-- John Cena vs. JBL (First Blood) --
A rematch from the previous PPV Judgment Day, two wrestlers with a brawling style in a solid 15 minute match. 7/10

-- Beth Phoenix vs. Melina (I Quit) --
This is one of the better 'diva' matches of recent years which featured some impressive submission wrestling. 7/10

-- Batista vs. Shawn Michaels (Stretcher match) --
This is a great match. It's a good 15 minutes long and tells a great story throughout, this is the better of their two matches (first match at Backlash PPV 1 month earlier) definately. 8/10

-- Triple H vs. Randy Orton (Last Man Standing) --
This match is impressive till the point where Randy Orton injures himself accidently, breaking his collar bone outside of the ring. Very unfortunate, but a good match till that point. 7/10

-- Edge vs. Undertaker (TLC) --
This is an outstanding 20 minute match. The stipulation is that tables, ladders and chairs can be used at any point, and indeed they are. This is great stuff and includes an awesome finish to the match. 9/10

Overall, I would highly recommend this PPV. It is definately one of the most entertaining WWE PPV's this year, and is in my eyes a definite purchase.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A great event with some good quality matches

One Night Stand started off as an ECW event that WWE produced in 2005 which came back under the ECW banner in 2006 both were at the Hammerstein Ballroom, New York. In 2007 WWE put all three brands together on the Pay Per Views so now it would be WWE One Night Stand and hosted every year but not at the Hammerstein Ballroom. 2007 of One Night Stand was a weak show it never did beat the first 2 events from 2005 and 2006 due to it having weak matches but 2008 of One Night Stand did improve on by a lot.

So let's now get into this review

        Falls Count Anywhere Match
        Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga

The falls count anywhere match this was a great opener and what I did enjoy about this match is both Umaga and Jeff Hardy pull off some great moves. I haven't seen a match that has been outside of the arena in ages and this reminds me an Hardcore title match. The highlight of this match was Jeff Hardy sliding down the banister on the stairs then doing a cross body on Umaga anything could of gone wrong there and it was just exciting to watch. The swanton bomb from the top of the truck was quite awesome I just didn't think much of the camera angles.

        Singapore Cane Match
Big Show vs. John Morrison vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. CM Punk

I didn't think I would enjoy this match but I thought it was fantastic for some odd reason Big Show did make me laugh. This is also the match where Big Show's face above his eye is cut by John Morrison knocking him and hitting his face on the corner of the steel steps. The part that I did enjoy was Big Show getting mad and just getting the Singapore Cage and just hitting Miz and Morrison over and over. A great part of the match was Morrison trying to dive at Big Show from the ring to the out side where Big Show just hits him with the cane. Very entertaining match indeed.

        "I Quit" Match
        Melina vs. Beth Phoenix

All I can say about this match is it's just shocking the way Beth just bends Melina's body the thing is I never did hear her say she Quits though it would of been great for Melina to win. This match is better quality then other diva matches at previous PPV events

        Stretcher Match
        Shawn Michaels vs. Batista

I will checking out this match when I feel like it I never watched it as I am not that keen on Batista I couldn't care less about him and I think Shawn Michaels is pretty good I not a big fan of his either. But the main reason is I am just not a fan of the stretcher match I find them quite boring to be honest. Though Shawn Michaels takes a hell of a beating.

        First Blood Match
        John Cena vs. JBL

The first blood match is the worst match on the event the Divas match is even better. This match is to slow which to be honest it is worth a skip.

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship
        Triple H vs. Randy Orton

Another injury appears on the event Big Show gets hurt now Randy Orton does. This is the very match were Orton breaks his collarbone due to a bad fall. The match is not as long of course the thing that annoys me is although Randy gets injured these people at the event boo him and don't cheer him. One guy tries talking hard you see Orton say something back then the ref just shoving the guy back it's quite funny actually. Even though Orton breaks his collarbone Triple H still knocks him back down by the sledgehammer. The match is not bad but the people could of shown some support for Randy Orton.

TLC Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
        Edge vs Undertaker

This was one of the main reasons why I bought this event on DVD because I never buy the event I don't have Sky Sports so I have to wait at least 4 to 3 month to watch this as it takes ages to come on DVD. Edge and Undertaker without of a doubt is one of the best rivalry's of 2008 it will go in the history records for sure. This is Undertaker's first TLC match and he done pretty good but Edge brought out some of the best of the Undertaker. There is a lot of people going threw the tables Hawk and Ryder go threw one table each, Edge gets a last ride from 2 tables on top of each other and Undertaker going threw 4 tables. This is also the match where if Undertaker loses he would leave WWE forever but we all knew he was just taking a break from wrestling. This is a classic match and is the match of the night.

        DVD Extras:
        4 Historical Undertaker Moments
        * Survivor Series 1990
        * King of the Ring 1998
        * Royal Rumble 2007
        * WrestleMania 23

The DVD extras feature 4 highlights of Undertaker moments which are nothing interesting as I have seen these before and these last for about 1 minute or just under each. The DVD could of shown some footage of Big Show's eye, it should of shown Randy Orton getting attended to after breaking his collar bone. What about the great segments with Edge on SmackDown why won't WWE put some of them in or even interviews it's annoying a great event with bad DVD Extras. It always seems that WWE are lazy with the extras.

I highly recommend this DVD as it does show some great wrestling action just the DVD Extras are disappointing as always. I give this DVD 9/10.
