The whole basis of Survivor Series 2001 was the Invasion storyline which if done correctly could have been a angle to rival that of the the introduction of the nWo (widely regarded as the greatest wrestling angle of all time). Unfortunately, as is typical of Vince McMahon, he was reluctant to book ECW and WCW realistic rivals to his beloved WWE and all his creations. The main event itself, a 10 man elimination tag match, was still excellent featuring strong perfomances and a hot crowd, with a twist at the end to develop future storylines following the card. As far as WWE pay per views went at the time, this was a pretty sterling offer. The Invasion of WCW and ECW wrestlers into the WWE had been handled pretty poorly. For whatever reason Vince McMahon pretty much buried both brands before they even got a chance to look good, it was no surprise then when both brands were diluted by WWE superstars Kurt Angle and Steve Austin, plus to make it worse they put Stephanie McMahon and Shane McMahon as the co-owners of this Alliance. So this even emanated from Greensboro North Carolina, hometown of the embodiment of WCW, The Nature Boy Ric Flair.
