Advantages: You can go snorkelling or diving and still have a wonderful experience

Disadvantages: The coral itself is not as great as other places, although the fish make up for it

In the Eastern Desert is the medieval port town of Quesir. The Red Sea is a fantastic place to go diving! It is famous for its superb coral reefs and multicoloured fish. It simply took my breath away! There are so many different types - electric eels, barracudas and I hear there are some small sharks but I didn't see any!

If you're not an experienced diver this will not hamper your experience at all, because you can hire a mask and snorkel for close up views.

I stayed at the Fanadir hotel, which was right by the beach. It was a 4 star hotel with volleyball, swimming pool and the rooms are lovely.

I have to say that for anyone thinking of travelling to Egypt, it is best to do so as part of a tour so that you get the most out of it. I went with Explorer Tours on a 15 day trip, which covered: Cario, Aswan, 3 day felucca trip to Luxor, then to Quesir (i.e. the Red Sea where you can go diving) and then back up to Cairo. This was for just £360 (not including flight) and this included donkey trekking, camel trekking and coutless tours with excellent guides (which is a must because we didn't even scratch the surface of Egyptian history).

The Egyptians are wonderful people and you will have the trip of a lifetime here!
