Advantages: new stadium means more revenue

Disadvantages: small pitch favoured a side who looked to scrape a win every now and again

Good riddance to the Dell. There can't be many away fans who have enjoyed coming to this little s**t-hole. It isn't much better for the players playing on a surface that small. It serves them right that they once had a Mark Hughes goal ruled out because it hit the ad boards behind the goal and bounced out before the ref could see it. The Dell represents why the premiership is incomparable with the Italian and Spanish leagues. It holds a massive 15,00. It's older than all of the players and most of the fans. Its as asthetically pleasing as a power station. Luckilly, the Southampton board have seen sense. There is no way a premier league team can survive on attendances of 15,000. The saints are fored to spend over 90% of their turnover on wages alone. There can be no money for youth development or transfers. The decision to biuld a new 40,000 seater stadium could be the most important decision the board every make. Something has to be done to keep them in the premiership, and the pure-jammy-luck is starting to wear thin. Just hope that they don't get relegated before it is completed. Their is nothgin worse than abrand new stadium, and no one to fill it. And imagine the noise that 40,000 siants will make as they chant their one song (two when they go ahead to a northern side and start chanting 1-0 to the southerners ... but this isn't used very often so is irrelevant)

Despite being so small, and therefore not bringing in a huge revenue for the club, but is has helped them as it is a difficult place to travel too. I look forward to a big new stadium though, its jsut a pity theres no Glen Hoddle anymore
