Hands off The Dell (The Dell (Southampton FC))

Advantages: Great atmosphere, dreaded by the away teams. Disadvantages: Unimpressive to look at
I frequently feel obliged to answer the Dell's critics and I do so here once again. The ground is by far the smallest in stature of all the Premiership stadia making it also the lowest capacity - this however, is an advantage. Many seem unaware of Southampton's outstanding home record and the difficulty other teams have in playing on the league's smallest pitch. The atmosphere is fantastic as the ground is always filled to capacity - those who argue that The Dell should be rebuilt to the average thirty-thousand capacity of the Premiership can not possibly argue that a half-empty large stadium has a better atmosphere than a packed-out stadium half its size. Southampton with their small budget and "ordinary" team have proved the critics wrong so many times and have now been playing top-flight football for years; this alone is a testament to The Dell's success as a Premiership ground - long may it continue.
