Disadvantages: Driving, ,

I have been to Mexico many times and I found that Driving is not the best way of getting around in Mexico. Let me show you the different methods of traveling in Mexico, and how they compare.

Driving:

If at all possible I would recommend finding other means of getting around in Mexico besides driving. It seems like most of the people who run in to trouble in Mexico, are those who drive in Mexico. If you drive in Mexico you can't relax and look at the scenery, and you will get tired before you can enjoy your trip. If you drive in Mexico you have to learn their road laws, because their laws are a little different. You are also more likely to get robbed, or get your car stolen if you drive in Mexico. And forget driving in Mexico City, because you will get so lost that you might never make it out. The city is just to big, and the traffic is out of this world. You can easly get into a car-wreak in Mexico City. It's just crazy. You also stand the chance of running into a corrupt Mexican cop and getting into some trouble if you drive. When you drive in Mexico you will pass through toll booths, in which you will pay a toll for using their road. Their are guys with big guns at these checkpoints to make sure that you pay the toll. You will also come across military checkpoints, at which Mexican troops check your car for narcotics, guns,(Never bring guns in Mexico) and things of that nature. Keep your passport with you at all times. Mexico can be safe vacation, but if you drive it can make it more dangerous.

By Bus:

I recommend any long distance travel in Mexico to be by bus. First I take a plane to Mexico City, then I take a bus to where ever I want to go. The buses in Mexico are cheap, much cheaper than American buses. When you travel by bus you will have a much safer vacation. You can go anywhere in Mexico by bus, but make sure to buy the return tickets at the same time you buy the destination ticke
ts. You might have to transfer buses to reach yor desired destination. The buses in Mexico are of good quality. They have t.v's, Music, and bathrooms. Have your passport with you at all times, you never know when someone might ask for it. I always travel by bus in Mexico, at times over 20 hours. Last time I was in Mexico, I stayed for a week and a half and brought 1,500 dollars. I would recommend 2,000, that will cover the many buses and hotels. I was able to go three weeks on 2,000 dollars on one of my trips. This is not including the plane ticket.

By Taxi:

I use taxies for shorter distance travel in Mexico. Like within a city or area. The only time that I used taxies for longer distence travel is when I wanted to see the Mayan ruins of the Yucatan. This was a good deal becuase the taxi driver knew where all of the ancient cities and caverns where. So because of the speed of the taxi I was able to see everything. The taxi drivers are great in Mexico. When we were looking at the Mayan ruins, the taxi driver would always wait for us to finish, even if it was over an hour. Alot of the taxi drivers in Mexico are veary patient, and will even stop for you to get something to eat. Remember they need the money, and are glad to do business with you. If it was not for that taxi driver I would not be able to see all of that great stuff in the Yucatan. Buses are to slow to see everything. Taxies in Mexico are alot cheaper than in America. I would never use an American taxi because they cost way too much. Be careful with taxies in Mexico city, because some people have been robbed and killed by imposters.

Conclusion:

If you want to have a good trip in Mexico then remember this formula. First by plane(unless the destination is close to the U.S border), then for long distances by bus, then for more exact, and precise locations, in shorter distances take a taxi.Taxies are recommended for longer distances if y
ou want to see alot of sites in a short amount of time and you don't have alot of time. Make sure that you have the money though. I am sure that you can see driving is not the best option.

Sorry for the rating but this doesn't really seem to be in the right category.

Great opinion.
I have to admit I used to find driving in most other countries a challenge...
