Although most of the other children were French , my instructor was fab and explained thing to me in English really well , and after 7 days of ski school for about 4 years I was ready to ski with my parents . ( I did practice and take lessons on the dry ski slope at home too ) Maybe it is the luck of the draw , but each time my instuctors were fantastic and the spoke excellent English even though they were French . Infact shopkeepers , and most people on the street spoke fantastic English , and so did lots of the French children at ski school !!!! My parents sent me and my brother both to Ski school wherever we went to France - Les Duex Alps . I found every year ( I went to ski school for about 4 years ) that my instructors we great , from what I can remember we had 2 for are large group . Dont think that there is only one ski school in France as this is far from the case. Just about all but the smallest of french resort now have at least one independant ski school, usually a member of the Ecole de Ski International umbrella. Ski schools are like any other business, if one doesn't appeal then take your business elsewhere. Most of these independant schools employ a variety of international instructors, including British, who have all passed the necessary French exams. Whats more many of these instructors will be able to give you the benefit of several teaching systems and will not be limited to one methodology from one system. Check out the web ... Having skied in many resorts in France accompanied by my wife and children we have found that the French Ski School - ESF is useless. I am sure that the instructors teach French children very well but there lack of English results in the poor teaching of British children. My son complained that the instructor often had trouble explaining technique to the group and they found it very diffucult to understand what they were supposed to be doing. The French only employ French instructors and the quality of the teaching for English speaking people has suffered as a result.
