St. Mary's Stadium (Southampton FC) ... since August 2001 when they moved from the The Dell, which for the final years of its life, held just over 15,000 spectators - less than half the size of the new stadium. Southampton were relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2004-2005 season and have yet to regain their place amongst England's elite. This has seen a reduction in the average crowd size to around 23,500, although attendances have fluctuated from 19,000 to 32,000.

Newest Review: ... the stadium where we saw a food outlet serving the usual fare of Hot dogs, beefburgers, chips etc. So, I duly purchased chips for £2.50(!!!) and a 1/2lb beefburger for a fiver(!!!). Well, at these prices you could expect a gourmet feast. Hmm. The burger tasted like cardboard and the chips were ok - for £7.50 I could have got more at McDonald's with a far better taste! Still, I didn't see ... more

I had the pleasure of watching my team (Bristol Rovers) win at St Mary's last week with a last minute winner, so I have some very happy memories of that night! However, it didn't all start that way. We were advised that there was no parking for away fans by the stadium, so the best bet was to get the Park & Ride which is about 5 minutes drive on a clear run and costs a fiver per car. This was very well organised so no complaints there. We were taken right outside the stadium where we saw a food outlet serving the usual fare of Hot dogs, beefburgers, chips etc. So, I duly purchased chips for £2.50(!!!) and a 1/2lb beefburger for a fiver(!!!). Well, at ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review St Mary's - League 1 football an insult to St Mar's itself (243 words)

Great Ground, shame about the team... As a follower of Southampton its terrible viewing of news reports over the past few years, but you can take nothing away from the stadium itself, its magnificent and its double the size to that of their previous ground, "The Dell" St Mary's is a 32,689 seater stadium which cost around 32million to build of which Saints moved into in 2001. I have been to St Marys several times and the design of the enclosed stadium encaptures the atmosphere which adds to the experience. It is shaped like a bowl, equal height the whole way round. The stadium consists of four stands, in whch ticket prices vary, Itchen ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review St. Mary's Stadium (Southampton FC): St Marys stadium review as an away fan (205 words)

I am not a Southampton fan but i have been to the St Marys stadium a few times now as an away fan to watch them play Ipswich. The stadium is in a bowl design with all the corners field in with seats and and the stands of an all equal height and the ground is all enclosed in with two great looking screens at each end and holds over 32,500 people. The ground is a new ish ground only been open in 2001 after they moved from their old ground The Dell. As an away fan to this stadium its good, you get a good view from behind the goal and when its full (Not like this season) it creates a good atmosphere. The facilities are of a high standard with big toilets and a good ...  Read the complete review

St Marys is the football stadium of Southampton in the area of St Mary's naturally enough. It is a UEFA 4-star rated stadium and with a capacity of about 32,000 and is the largest football stadium in the South of England, outside of London. It is the home of Southampton football club who have played there since 2001. I have been to St Mary's a number of times and I really like this stadium. The atmosphere is always really good and everyone knows hot to enjoy themselves with plenty of songs and banter. In the main the fans are well spirited, and granted it is a football stadium, you will get a few nutters from time to time, but the Saints mob are generally ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review St. Mary's Stadium (Southampton FC): It couldn't be worse than the Dell (636 words)

St Mary's stadium is the home of Southampton F.C, a football team languishing in the second tier of English football after 30 years in the top flight ended in 2005. It has been the home of Southampton since 2001, when they moved from the dilapidated Dell (which was, quite simply, the worst stadium that I've ever seen in my entire life). I am a neutral when it comes to Southampton FC - I do not support them, however I moved to the south coast in 2000 and my dad has adopted the club as his own (after all, they are marginally more successful than his home club of Hartlepool FC) and as such, I have gone with him to a fair few number of games. I watch out for ...  Read the complete review
