Advantages: The real fans want terraces back
Disadvantages: The corporate fans in suits control football
Although it is undenyable that that the adoption of all-seater stadia has increased saftey, and improved condiditons for match-going fans, the recommendations of the Taylor report have left most football grounds a shadow of their former selves. Capacities have been reduced, real fans have been booted out to make way for coporate w*****s, and you can no longer buy tickets on the day for premiership games, or go wherever you want in the stand. Also, it is much harder to chant and get an atmosphere going whilst sitting down. As a Man United fan, this is of particular intrest to me. In 1993, the old Stretford End was knocked down to make way for seating, agaisnt the wishes of the fans. Consequently, behind the goals in the Stretford and Scorebaord Ends, fans continue to stand as they did. Now, terraces in themselves have never been a saftey hazard. Nations such as Germany and Italy still allowing terraces in the highest division. Even less of a risk is United fans standing by their seats during the game. However, the United baord decided this was unaccpetable, and through the untrained monkeys of Special Projects Security, sought to evict and confiscate the season ticket of anybody who stood during the game. Since they can't evict thousands of people at a time, Trafford Borough Council got involved. If United fans saw fit to enjoy the game by standing up, then TBC would close down the Stretford End for a certain number of games as a punishment. It seems typical of the modern, corporate dominated game that real fans could be prevented from watching the game simply becasue they wish to stand up to watch it. I for one would be all in favour of brining beack terraces for the real fans to stand on.Seating is no more safe than terraces. Terraces create a better atmosphere, get more fans in, and should be cheaper than seats. But since when did the opinions of the real fans ever matter to tiday's chairmen. SPS, kiss my arse I'll
keep standing, SPS, your IQ is three, SPS, kiss my arse I'll keep standing, No surrender to the PLC.

- 23/05/02 Lets bring back terracing. We still have an uncovered terrace and I will stand there for as long as I can. When I go to away games and have to sit I feel like a spectator rather than a supporter. I like standing, It's the only way to watch a game. |

- 23/06/01 bug-weecher,
In my experience it seems to take just as long (if not longer) to get out of an all-seater stand as a terraced stand.
I'm talking about normal circumstances here, so imagine what it would be like with people clambering over seats in a blind panic !!
