Advantages: Friendly atmosphere and easily accessible.
Disadvantages: Food can be over priced
The Hawthorns is a very good football stadium for a number of reasons. Firstly, for people who love their football history and statistics, it is the home of one of the Football League's founding members and is also the highest ground above sea level, so there is plenty of interesting stories and things to look out for at the ground.
The ground is also very easily accessable, as it is just off the M5 motorway. Also, being in the Midlands, it is not too far from any other grounds in the country so it is an easy trip for away fans. The ground also has its own tram and railway station so it is very easy to get to for more local supporters.
The ground itself is quite modern and has good facilities throughout. The East Stand was rebuilt fairly recently and the Halfords Lane stand was completely refitted in the summer of 2008. The ground has something for all, with the stands along the sides of the pitch offering a more family oriented atmosphere, and the Smethwich and Birmingham Road stands attracting the more vocal supporters. Food and drink in the ground is of a reasonable quality, although as you would expect at a football ground, it does not come cheap.
The Hawthorns is also a very good venue for corporate events, and has very nice corporate areas with pictures and memorabilia on display of the club's more successful times.
Other facilites at the Hawthorns include a large club shop, ticket office and a large, newly built indoor training facility across the road from the ground. This gives the club a very professional feel.
Around the ground are a number of pubs, including the Vine, which is a popular pre game location for both home and away supporters. The ground is also situated next to a large bakery, and many West Brom fans will speak of the smell of freshly baked bread that often welcomes them to games at the Hawthorns.
Overall, the Hawthorns is a very welcoming football ground. The atmosphere can often be subdued but on a big occasion, you can guarantee a lot of noise. The ground is about the right size for the size of the club which means that there is rarely a large amount of empty seats at games. It is certainly well worth a visit.
Summary: Well worth a visit.
