Arsenal Stadium (Highbury)

Arsenal Stadium (Highbury) ... college's recreation ground. It has since been redeveloped twice, the first in the 1930s (from which the still-existing Art Deco East and West Stands date), and the second in the late 1980 and early 1990s following the Taylor Report, during which the terraces at both ends of the pitch were replaced, reducing the stadium's capacity. This reduction, coupled with East Stand's listed building status, has prevented Arsenal from maximising their matchday revenue, so in 2006 the club moved to the nearby and larger Emirates Stadium, constructed by the club as a replacement for Highbury. Since then, Highbury has been undergoing redevelopment to turn it into an apartment complex, with most of the stadium having been demolished, save for parts of the East and West Stands, which are being incorporated into the new development.

This is the last season that fans will get to see football played at it’s purest at Highbury as the new stadium will be open for business for the start of the 2006 season. Now you might think that as a life long fan who used to live in N5 I will be sad to see the team move to a new stadium where the name has already been sold to the highest bidder, Emirates, however you would be wrong. It is not that I don’t love the old stadium even with all of it’s faults, what is more important to me is that the team are able to compete and continue to win things and the sad reality is that crowds of 38, 000 do not generate the kind of revenue that allow the team to compete with the ...  Read the complete review

If you’re going to Highbury to watch your team play Arsenal then unless you’re Man U or Chelsea you’ll be expecting to be outclassed for the majority of the match. If luck is on your side you may grind out a draw, a win would be the stuff of dreams but the likelihood is that you’ll not be leaving with three points. We made our journey to Highbury knowing that there was an odds on chance we would lose, at Carrow Road we had witnessed an Arsenal master class as they beat us 4-1. The result at Highbury was just the same although we did get a good strike from Darren Huckerby. It’s just a shame we allowed Mr Henry a lot of time and space! I’d never been ...  Read the complete review

I recently had the opportunity to visit Highbury the home of Arsenal FC. As a neutral supporter I must say I was impressed. I have visited quite a few football stadiums not only in England but in Europe from the old style such as Highbury and the modern type of stadium such as the Amsterdam Arena and despite it?s age, Highbury is right up there with the best. Getting there: Well getting there couldn?t be easier. The underground station ?Arsenal? is just steps away from the ground. From central London just take the Piccadilly Line North and get of at Arsenal. Coming home we found it was easier to walk 5 minutes to the nearby Finsbury Park Station rather than ...  Read the complete review

Arsenal have an excellent array of players at their club and if they can keep players like "Henry" and "Viera" happy at the club then they have a good chance of winning trophies in the near future. I feel with Arsene Wenger renewing his contract at Arsenal the players will have more faith in him and will be able to play to their full potential now that they know that they have the trust of their manager. Behind the scenes at Arsenal they have very good ground staff and some of their coaching staff are the best in the world. I feel their chairman needs to put more money into the club although he has already generated a lot of money for the ...  Read the complete review
