It was built in 1899 and held its final game on 30th April 2005 when Coventry City beat Derby County 6-2 in the Football League Championship with the last ever goal appropriately being scored by Andrew Whing, a product of the Coventry youth academy. Highfield Road had one of the largest playing surfaces in the English leagues and was also one of the first all-seater stadiums in the UK (the first all-seater in the UK was Pittodrie Stadium).

The great thing about the ground was the location, with it being just outside of the City centre, many fans were able to walk to the ground, which added to the atmosphere. Many business' have suffered since the move due to loss of revenue. Coventry achieved their highest ever attendance in the ... more

My spiritual home! Highfield Road was the home of Coventry City for more than 100 years, during which, the club had it's most successful spells. But Coventry have gone ahead with the building of their new futuristic stadium. With one of the ...  Read the complete review

The one thing that sets aside the Spanish and Italian league from our own is the quaility of the stadia they play in. The proposed stadium, with its 40,000 capacity, and retractable pitch and roof would be a model for other clubs with ambition. The increased capacity would bring in more money when the ground is sold out, and it would no doubt be used if England were to stage the world cup. Also, the retractable roof would allow the stadium ti be used for concerts and such like, brining in ...  Read the complete review
