I write this review on the day of the 20th anniversary of the hilsborough disaster , where 96 fans very sadly lost their lives . My thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims at a very emotional time for them . At the time of the tragic disaster , Hilsborough was being used as a nuetral venue for a F.A cup semi final , therefore being one of the countries great stadiums . That game changed the stadium requirements in the U.K for a safer all seater stadiums . Hilsborough still stands proud as an excellent stadium bursting with character and in a steel city derby (sheffield wednesday v sheffield united ) it provides a fantastic atmosphere .It is home to coca cola championship team Sheffield Wednesday and also hosts other events such as music , darts and hospitality .Outside the ground near the main entrance is a memorial to the 96 fans who died at Hillsborough in 1989, at the FA Cup Semi Final between Liverpool & Nottingham Forest. The memorial is normally covered in flowers left by those who wished to pay their respects.
If you are an away fan visiting Hillsborough you can experience a relaxed atmosphere in and around the ground . With plenty of pubs and food outlets availible .
In my opinion the ground is one of the best in the league if not the country in terms of setting , atmosphere and attractiveness.
