Advantages: Lots of room, easy access.
Disadvantages: Getting out afterwards.
I never went to the Huish, Yeovil's old ground. I have seen the pictures, and looks like a fine old non-league ground. But they tore it down and now we have a rather more up to date construction. As an away supporter my view will be different to a Yeovil regular, but will be more useful to your average away fan. As far as non-league grounds go, this one is out of the top drawer. I considered it to be the best one I had visited, until R&D came along, but they are definitely a one off. It is situated at the end of a commercial estate, so you can drop the wife off for an hour or two to do some shopping while you watch the game. From a distance it is an impressive structure, although on closer inspection it is showing signs of wear, large stands in acres of space, with ample car parking, although the single entrance to the car park ensures a long wait after the game if you wait for the final whistle (which happens quite a lot as we [Hayes] have a creditable record there). Visiting fans are now segregated. This is only a recent development, but a sensible one. You have a choice of covered seating along one side of the pitch in the corner, or open terrace behind the goal. The terrace tends to be a bit too exposed and I have frozen me bits of a few times there! The view is excellent whatever you choose. The price is subject to change but is average for the Conference. Stewards are present in large numbers and competent and helpful, at least if Yeovil are winning! There are ample facilities, toilets, refreshments, etc., and the access to these is also excellent for the able bodied and the less fortunate. The range of refreshments is disappointing though. You can try the club bar if you like, but I find it a bit intimidating, which is a shame, as the club officials are as friendly as any I have met. Well worth a visit, but hurry, it won't be a non league ground for much longer! * The away section is being
used by the home fans at the moment, as the usual home section is closed and having a roof put over it. The temporary away accommodation is all seated at one end of the Bartlett Stand to one side of the pitch. Watch Yeovil v HAYES live on sky, at 12 this Saturday! Spot the flag!

- 03/04/01 I've always enjoyed trips to Huish Park, it's a quality ground for our level, just a shame about the result last week :( |
