DW Stadium (Wigan Athletic FC)Newest Review: ... to host Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors. From the exterior it sits well between a new midsize reatail park and a large supermarket. The interior is looks basic but works well on matchdays, the majority of the seating offer good fews but as pointed out in previous reviews can be awkward when the action is the corners of the playing field and during the winter months wrap up warm. Well dooyoo 1st off you need to update this to its new name the DW stadium!! Having worked there as a crowd steward and visted numerous times as a fan I know the stadium like the back of my hand. The stadium itself was a new build facility(1999) designed to host Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors. From the exterior it sits well between a new midsize reatail park and a large supermarket. The interior is looks basic but works well on matchdays, the majority of the seating offer good fews but as pointed out in previous reviews can be awkward when the action is the corners of the playing field and during the winter months wrap up warm. The JJB Stadium is the home ground of Wigan Athletic Football Club who currently play their football in the English Premier League under the management of former Manchester United player Steve Bruce. The stadium is relatively new, opening in 1999 after the club moved from their old Springfield Park ground. It's a small to medium sized stadium at 25,023 capacity and the views of the pitch are fantastic with no restricted view seating. It does look like a modern stadium, although he design is quite basic and it does look like it was built fairly cheaply, for example there are very few corporate areas and executive boxes and all stands are single tiered. The JJB has set new standards for football clubs in the lower divisions. Some people have questioned the size of it, saying it is too big, but a stadium that is home to both a football team and rugby team needs to be big. The pitch, recently home to the England Vs Italy under-16 international match, has already won an award for being to best pitch in England at the time. Not bad for one that gets used weekly for rugby and football. The stands are fully seated, and no matter where you sit, you are guaranteed a great view of the pitch and the rest of the stadium. The atmosphere could be better for the football, but if rugby is your game, theres ... Read the complete review

I used to watch Wigan at Springfield Park and the JJB has put Wigan in a new era in terms of sports facilities. I work for Wigan athletic for the JJ's matchday club which provides kids with entertainment before the game and entrance to the match for just £2. The JJB is located at Robin Park which is a complex for sprots and shopping and provides excellent facilities for sport in general. The atmosphere in the familiy(North) stand is excellent and it is full on most games, the atmosphere around the rest of the ground could be improved and will probably do just that when Wigan get promoted and the "sucess supporters" arrive. The overall facilities ... Read the complete review

Regardless of your views on new stadia in general, this one is simply a tale of one man's dream. Only two years ago I was watching football at Wigan Athletic's old ground, Springfield Park, stuck outside in the pouring rain, or under the stand with its' leaky roof and terrible facilities and no-one can deny it has been a wonderful move. So what can you expect? - a tremendous view, no matter where you sit. Excellent facilities, toilets that actually work, with hot water. A lovely playing surface, although as Wigan Worriers (oops did I spell that wrong) are playing there in the Summer it remains to be seen whether that will continue to be the case in ...
