The first thing that most travelling supporters will notice about the Kassam Stadium is that it only has three sides. sehind one goal is simply an 8 foot wooden fence, despite onlt having there stands the stadium's capacity is 12,500 which is very large for lower league football (its Oxford United who play blue square conference fixtures there). The pitch at the stadium is very impressive for a non league stadia and a low percentage of the grass is artificial meaning that it looks as good as new all year round. My experience of the Kassam Stadium, home of Oxford United was a mixed one really. I last went there around 5 years ago when Oxford and my Doncaster Rovers were in League 2 together and, back then, the Kassam was regarded as a good newly developed stadium, despite only having 3 completed stands. Ordinarily I wouldn't see that as a problem but the day I went there was beyond windy and boy did we pay for that. The corners are open anyway without all the wind having an easy way in behind the goal. I believe the club had ran out of money to finish the ground, which was a real shame as the three stands that are there are excellent, particularly for that level, at the time. ... On the field, the last season has been desperately disappointing for Oxford United as they finished in their lowest ever league position. In fact, one of the only positive things to come out of this season has been the move to the excellent Kassam Stadium. It has a capacity of around 12,000 and some excellent facilities. Officials from Real Madrid even came to the Kassam a couple of months ago to have a look at the pitch and want to have a similar one in their Bernabeu stadium.
