Advantages: Atmosphere created by home fans

Disadvantages: Nowhere near as nice as it looks on TV

When you see Maine Road on television you think it looks like a nice stadium. The trimmings on the stadnds look nice, the light blue seats look nice, everything looks nice. Wait until you go there though!

For a start the away fans are stuck away in a corner. No problem, but they will seat you from the back (if your club sell the tickets in advance of the day) and you can be quite a way from the action. Not too much of a problem, although the fencing at the side of the stand is not too convincing. It does not stop the wind very much either!

Prior to that you will have entered the stand. Through all the concrete and the flaking white paint. You really expect better from what you see on the television, but everything down to the blue medal cages around the refreshment areas tell you otherwise.

That is the view from an away fan, although to be fair the new Kippax stand does look fantastic. Forgetting the arena you must give the City fans credit, because they do create a fantastic atmosphere.

And then there is the area the ground is situated in. Manchester?s Moss Side. A lovely area to have a ground in, not! It is not just a false reputation either, as I have personally seen it is a nasty area to be around with quite a lot of locals out looking for a fight.
