Advantages: Great atmosphere, friendly and hepfull staff, ideally situated,
Disadvantages: I have no more evens booked at the ground!
Wow.. What a weekend! I have just got back from my first time in Cardiff having spent the weekend there to watch the British Speedway Grand Prix, it was a weekend for frist seeing as i hd never been to Cardiff before (fantastic place) I had never been to a speedway meeting before (I am hooked!) and most importantly and hence my review I had never been to the Millenium stadium before...what a place!!!
The Millenium stadium opened in the centre of Cardiff in 1999 and made history by having the first fully retractable roof on a stadium in the UK. Having spend the weekend in Cardiff and visiting different partsof the city the stadium can be seen from around the town with its giant 'spider legs' visable form miles away!
The stadium itself partly runs alongside the river and parlty alongsie the side streets of the town. The cardiff train station is literally a stones throw away form the stadium as well as the bus station and hotels are dotted about everywhere.
Once at the stadium my tickets made it clear which gate I had to enter (the gates are clearly marked for all to see) and before going through the gates there is a bag search which is done calmly and quietly, safety is of the highest importance at the stadium. The staff on the turnstiles are really friendly and show you which way to head to find your seats.
Now inside the stadium there are pleantly of facilities; toilets (including disabled) food and drink stalls and merchandise stands. Staff selling programs for the days events are scattered throughout so there were no endless queues to be waiting around in. Food was reasonable priced, I had a hot dog for £4.00 and a bottle of coke for £2.00, there was also lots of beer and larger being drunk so that can't have been badly priced!!!
We decided to find our seats first and then have a wander back to get food and drink. Clearly labeleed are the gates to your seats and with stewards on standby to direct you to your seats you really can't go wrong. Once I took my first breathtaking steps into the arean itself I loved it! The atmosphere was already electric, the roof was partly open letting the sunlight through and the amazing sound system was playing some classic tunes!
There are giant screens at both ends of thre stadium so you can see action replays and close ups, there are also monitors positioned throuhout the stands for those in the lower tears who can not see the big screens, a small touch but very effective. The seats are comfortable and my other half had pleanty of leg room (he is over 6ft!)
The stadium can hold up to 74500 spectators over 3 tiers and the staff and the ground itself more than look after them!!
I would love to return to the stadium as i had such a fantastic time there, the stadium really is a credit to the town of Cardiff.
Summary: A stadium to be proud of!
