Oakwell (Barnsley FC)Newest Review: ... my thoughts on Oakwell could be accused of being favourable for blinkered reasons, but I assure Oakwell is everything I say it is... terrific. For a team that is now in the Championship, but was in League 1 when I first went there, to have this quality of stadium in that league was quite exceptional. Being a supported of Doncaster Rovers for many years, Oakwell is a ground I have been to many times as Rovers and Barnsley have locked horns a lot in recent years, mostly in our favour I might add, so my thoughts on Oakwell could be accused of being favourable for blinkered reasons, but I assure Oakwell is everything I say it is... terrific. For a team that is now in the Championship, but was in League 1 when I first went there, to have this quality of stadium in that league was quite exceptional. As a past season ticket holder to this ground I can tell you what a great place it is to watch Barnsley football club. There is not a poor seat in the ground. It has three stands that are not old at all and a forth which may be being demolished soon. At the moment it can hold 23,000 at its full capacity and if the West stand is knocked down it could bring the capacity to about 26,000. If this did happen there would still be loads of room to expand with three out of the four side open, one is a new disabled stand. If they did expand the stadium to 26,000 they should fill it every week if they get promoted. ... Read the complete review

Over the last ten years I have seen Oakwell, the home of Barnsley FC, go through some major changes. In 1990 it was a crumbling mainly terraced stadium with a team that seemed to be going nowhere. In the year 2000, the stadium is 23,000 all seater and three of the four stands are excellent with plans to demolish and rebuild the fourth stand to increase the capacity to around 26,000, given that the club have bought the row of houses that are at the back of this stand I would say that they plan to begin the building work quite soon. The stadium has only been filled to capacity once in the 1999/2000 season but if they did win promotion and demand was as high as the ... Read the complete review
