Advantages: Great stadium

Disadvantages: Half wit fans

Being a Notts Couny fan, I am not used to visiting big stadiums. I went to Stamford Bridge when we played Chelsea in the cup a couple of seasons ago, but their stadium is nothing compared to Old Trafford.

I managed to get myself a free ticket in the Executive Stand for the Arsenal game at the weekend and what an experience I had. We had probably the best seats in the house in terms of the view and the game itself was entertaining as well. However, being in this stand, you tend to get stuck with the people who don't know a lot about football. I constantly found myself staggered by the opinions of the people behind me and made me think Roy Keane had a valid point when he described them as prawn sandwiches. The atmosphere looked nothing special in the 3 other stands, but from where I was sitting, it was even worse. Even when Wayne Rooney scored a fantastic goal against one of their big Premiership rivals in one of the biggest games of the season, the United fans around me failed to get excited. It makes me feel sorry for the real Unitd fans who can't get tickets every week because they are taken up by glory hunting half wits like these

If you are driving to the game, it is perhaps best to park a little further away from the ground than you would at other venues as getting away at the end of the game is a bit of a nightmare. We parked in the Old Trafford cricket ground, where there were plenty of spaces, but inevitably, we had to wait half an hour before we even moved. It would probably help if the hundreds of Policemen and women actually directed the traffic rather than standing around not doing a lot, as the traffic lights just make the delay even longer.

Old Trafford is probably the best stadium in the country to watch football, but I think I'll stick to supporting a smaller club. There is more passion and atmosphere at somewhere like Chesterfield than there will ever be at Manchester United.

Summary: Good football, rubbish fans

Nice to see someone's view of a place like this, and it seems a shame that there is a better atmostpher at local clubs, and this seems to have been turned over to the elite. Typical though of most things.
