Advantages: All inclusive works out cheapest

Disadvantages: No shop except online.

I recently completed an Open Water Course with Maidstone Scuba and found them to be brilliant!

I did call a few of the others locally, including Blue Ocean, but overall found Maidstone Scuba were the best price. Others including Blue Ocean DO add extra bits on like another £150 or so for mask and fins making the course VERY much more expensive!

Maidstone Scuba DO HAVE a classroom at Maidstone Leisure Centre (at least they did have when I did my course) so don't know what the other reviewer is talking about!

Personally I didn't join their dive club as I don't intend diving in UK but if I had the cost of the course would have been even cheaper.

I found them to be VERY VERY good and apparently they trained the bloke that set up Blue Ocean... so possibly there are some bad feelings at Blue Ocean me thinks!!!

Summary: Competitively price, they know what they are doing, established many years so long track record.

Scubachap, we too called in and asked for prices for a scuba diving course and were given the prices. We were then advised that we would need to purchase fins, mask and mouthpiece at a cost of around £150-£160. The reason for this was given as they are very personal items and would we want to use something someone else has used? (if properly steralised, I wouldnt mind to be honest). We were also told we would be charged to be transported to the lake (described as a token sum towards petrol costs) which considering the price of the course was taking the mick. We didnt stay to ask any further questions as this made Blue Ocean way out of our price range. When you are very new to a sport you really dont want to be laying that kind of money our for equipment in case you decide its not for you. As the man says, who would want to use someone elses equipment? So you couldnt sell it on. As for your observation about the membership of the respective diving club. People dont give a second thought to joining something thats free, it doesnt make it a good club or an active club. You just arent losing anything by joining so why not? I dont mean to sound negative, I cannot comment on the quality of the tuition at Blue Ocean but I can relate our experience when we called in the shop. Regards...Scuba Novice.

Maidstone Scuba did train the guy who co-set up Blue Ocean. However he no longer works there and hasn't for 3 years. He works for Leybourne Lake now.

It doesn't have to cost £150 for mask and fins either. Granted, they don't sell sh!t, but that's for a reason.

Would you find the cheapest parachute and go jump out of a plane? If all you're worried about with a scuba centre is price...
