Advantages: Great views, good facilities, very family friendly, really good Japanese food
Disadvantages: Parking can be a pain
Safeco Field located in Seattle is the home of the Seattle Mariners baseball team. The stadium opened in 1999 and is one of the most unique stadiums I have ever visited. It has a retractable roof allowing for baseball games to be played whatever the weather.
All seats in the stadium offer a great view of the baseball field, I personally like to sit down the 3rd base line allowing you to look into the Mariners dugout and see all the players and coaches, also these seats of a slightly closer view of the action with foul ball whizzing past your head once or twice a game at least.
Safeco field has a number of unique features which stand out from other ballparks located around North America. The first feature is the train line that runs directly past the outfield bleachers, which is located at a junction where the trains hit their horn every time they pass, the clattering noise of a train at least 100 carriages long is a very unique noise if you have never heard it.
The second and main unique feature is the food and refreshments on offer. As you would expect the stadium has all the standard hot dg and beer and junk food vendors, but as Seattle is a port town with a world famous fish market they offer a lot of fish dishes and fishy snacks on offer.
As the Seattle Mariners are owned by a Japanese corporation they offer a wide range of Japanese foods which are very very tasty and well worth paying for. As they are sold in a sports stadium the food obviously has silly names such as the Seattle famous Ichirolls named after Ichiro Suzuki who is the star player on the Seattle Mariners who also hails from Japan.
Tickets to Mariners games ranged from about $10 - $99 depending on where you sat and how old you were. The stadium is near central Seattle so will only be a 5minute journey by car or taxi. The toileting and food facilities were very clean and user friendly, wih plenty of staff on hand to help out if you get lost. The only bad thing about Safeco Field is the lack of parking nearby which means you will need to pay to park privately nearby in business car parks and this will cost between $5 and $20 depending how close to the stadium you park.
Summary: Avery good stadium located in Seattle, well worth a visit to catch a Mariners ball game
