Stadiums Abroad in general Sporting Venue

Newest Review: ... but the stadium is every bit as beautiful when it's completely empty. Two-tiered blocks of blue and red seats intermingle with swirls of green and white, colliding behind each goal with s plashes of orange and swathes of yellow in a riot of curves and colours. The roof of the main stand, designed to resemble the flapping wings of a bird, appropriately soars over the executive boxes below, extending north and south up and out of the stadium in two gentle arcs. Opposite, the East Stand forms a slight crescent shape behind a moat obviously designed with the h... more

From a distance it's hard to ascertain if Suwon World Cup Stadium is a football ground or merely another of those gigantic hypermarkets that are so intrusively prevalent in major Korean cities. Looming over the squashed eastern suburbs of the city, the stadium, which at first glance appears no more than an unattractive jumble of metal pipes and grey breezeblocks, takes on an entirely different perspective with the benefit of a closer inspection. THE STADIUM Located in Paldal-gu, the 43,288 capacity stadium first opened in May 2001 and has since hosted the 2001 Confederations Cup, Under-19 internationals, international friendlies, K-League fixtures ...  Read the complete review

Parc des Princes - the best stadium in the world (282 words)

From the outside Parc des Princes doesn't seem to be the most inspiring stadium in the world. Amongst the great architecture of Paris the stadium seems something of a concrete eyesore. However the purpose of a stadium isn't to look pretty on an architect's drawing board but to be a stage for sporting acheivements. The Parc des Prince is the home of Paris St Germaine as well as the spiritual home of French rugby. It holds just over 40 thousand but due to it's design it seems much more. The stadium is a concrete bowl and because of this it seems to reflect the sound back in making a superb atmosphere. Like many large stadia when you ...  Read the complete review

Stadiums Abroad in general: Parken, Copenhagen (235 words)

Parken is the Danish national stadium and also the home ground of FC Kobenhavn (FCK). Having lived in Copenhagen for a couple of years, I've been there many times. You can find it to the East of the city, just outside Oesterbro station, a 20 minute walk from the centre of the city. It's an all seater stadium with around 44000 maximum capacity. It's very well maintained and spacious inside - you can even find paper in the bathrooms!! Entrance to an FCK home game is 100 Kroner (£8.50). With Carlsberg as the main sponsors of FCK and the stadium, you get a great deal on beer, which is on sale constantly. It's 20 Kroner (£1.75) a pint, ...  Read the complete review

Recently I went on a tour of the Amsterdam Arena, and was amazed how big the stadium was. However one of the safety rules was quite funny. They don't sell chips, or french fries. These are seen as being flammible and could be used as a projectile, alight or otherwise. However, it seems hamburgers and pizzas are ok and are sold in the arena! Whilst we were there the stadium was very impressive, especially as the Amsterdam Admirals cheerleaders were practising at the time..... The stadium is of course home to Ajax, one of the biggest football teams in Europe. There is a museum dedicated to the club there, which includes replicas of all the trophies the club ...  Read the complete review

Stadiums Abroad in general: Svengerland 2 Hairybacks 0 (624 words)

Five on the spin for Svengerland and already the pundits are talking big again, why do they do this, we know what’s coming and the same scribe are ready to destroy the manager and moral if we lose the next two. Glen Hoddle was more than competent and was only sunk by a three year old radio interview after his excellent qualification for France 98.You can bet the tabloids have a few stories about the Swedes if we don’t make the play-offs. I admit that I wasn’t a big fan of appointing Erricson and said so here early on. But im prepared to bite a big chunk of humble pie after this Hoddle like win in Greece. He picked the right side for the ...  Read the complete review
