WOODENBRIDGE G.C. Woodenbridge Golf Club is located in the Vale of Avoca in Co. Wicklow, the heart of”Ballykissangel” country, and about 45 miles from the capital, Dublin. This is one of my favourite “parkland” courses in the whole of Ireland, and it is only in recent years that it has begun to receive the plaudits and recognition it so richly deserves. The setting is idyllic. It nestles in a river valley deep in the heart of the Wicklow mountains, surrounded by all the riches mother nature has to offer. I have recently returned from my first golfing holiday in Ireland. As one of a party of twenty, I stayed at a hotel in Arklow for four nights and played Coolatin, Balymoney, Dalgeny, St Helens Bay, and Woodenbridge. No "big names" among these, and no links courses, but all eminently enjoyable, particularly Dalgeny, and Coolatin and, especially, Woodenbridge. This is in an exquisite setting, around twenty minutes drive south of Arklow, in Ballykissangel Country. The course occupies a narrow strip of level ground in a wooded valley at the confluence of two rivers. The rivers are in play on several holes and are definitely not water hazards!
