You have most likely come across the Adidas Superstar trainers somewhere in the past. Whether friends have them or you've seen them in the shops, they have been around for years and keep coming out with new colours. They are available in Women's, Men's and Junior's and they are all the same design just different styles and sizes.
I bought my first pair about 5 years ago in TK Maxx. I was never a big fan of the design with the rubber edge at the front of the shoe but i tried on some different shoes in my size in TK Maxx and was in love with the Superstars immediately as they were so comfy! And I soon got over the rubber edge design, in fact I quite like it now.
My first pair was yellow with little embroided flowers, very girly and pretty. The sides feature the 3 stripes as usual. I can't remember how much I paid, I would have thought around £30, which is a bargain really. In the shops nowadays they will set you back around £65. But for either price they are worth it. I have had my first pair for years and I am still wearing them today. The sole has worn and they gotten fairly dirty as they are a light yellow, but they are still in ok condition and perfectly fine to wear. I have washed them once and had no issues with a special shoe programme on my washing machine. They came out nice and fresh, although some of the year old dirt didn't quite come out. But that's wear and tear for you.
I still have the same laces that came with the shoes and although they gotten a bit dirty over the years, they are still in great condition otherwise. They haven't torn or anything like so many other laces you often get with shoes and then have to replace.
Over the years I have looked for a new pair but never quite liked the designs. They were either too boring and plain or too boyish. I miss the girlier designs in blue and pink or with flowers. But recently I found a new dark blue pair with a faint flower design. It was love at first sight. The design of the actual shoe has not changed much, I still purchase the same size and they fit just as perfectly. That's what I like about Adidas, you can rely on the quality and consistency. I mean how many times have you found a shoe that fits and you love only for it to never be made again.
I sometimes see this trainer advertised as a running trainer but I would not recommend it for that. It is much more a casual trainer for everyday wear. It is great with jeans or shorts in the summer and I can walk miles in it as they are just so comfy.
Overall I would recommend this as a casual everyday shoe. It's comfy, light, durable and you get your money's worth out of it. They come in fashionable designs and colours and are for men, women and kids alike.
I feel I should preface this review by saying that my mum has the ladies version, I have the child's version and my fiancée has the male version, these shoes are all the same! It's just the colours and sizes that vary depending on gender, therefore I hope that this review is relevant nonetheless.
These are my fiancées favourite trainers in the world and I suppose they are mine too. He got a pair about 4 years ago and has had another 2 pairs since. I got a pair not long after him - he was always going on about how comfy they were - and I still have that same pair. The reason I have bought 1 pair and he has had 3 in total? He wears them into the ground. He didn't have them off his feet because they were so comfy! Being a girl, I had a little more to consider than just comfort and therefore my Superstars have not been worn as much as they might have been.
~~~ Product Description ~~~
Adidas Superstar trainers come in a variety of colours but the two most common are white with black detail and black with white detail. Mine are the white with black variety. A really distinguishing feature of Superstars is the "shell toe". This is a hard, round, rubber shell over the toe area. It is usually textured in some way. Mine are textured with hundreds of tiny little criss-crosses which are a pain to clean!
Superstars have a thick (about an inch), solid rubber sole which is textured and patterned on the bottom. The white outer is made from leather, the shell toe, from rubber while the inner is "textile" which I assume is just man made. The shoes are very lightly padded and the sole is shaped slightly to offer your foot maximum support.
Adidas offer a very wide range of other colour combinations including white with pink, silver, blue, red or green detail. Red with blue detail; blue with pale blue detail... the list goes on. The detail can also be leather, suede or manmade. Personally I like the suede but that only seems to be available in the adult sizes (and I have child's feet). You can also customise a pair on their website.
~~~ My Experience ~~~
After my boyfriend got his Superstars, my old Converse trainers (not Chucks!) started to fall apart. I liked the look of the Superstars (very Brit-pop) and he was always going on about how comfy they were, so I decided to get a pair myself. Now, being a size 2.5uk is usually a total headache for me when it comes to buying shoes. They never fit, I rarely get nice high heels that fit, I hate it. However, when buying branded trainers, my tiny feet always work to my advantage. I got my children's Superstars for £20 while other people have to pay £45 and above! Children's Superstars are exactly the same as the adult version in terms of shape, materials and general look of the shoe. The only difference is that they have different colour combinations available if you are buying men's, women's or children's Superstars.
When putting the shoes on I was pleasantly surprised to find that they fit snugly around my heel and ankle - usually all shoes are too wide here. They give excellent support around this part of your foot and feel really secure. The lightly shaped foot bed is excellent for providing support for your arches and generally cradling your foot. Up towards the toe end of the shoe you will find that you have lots of wiggle room for your toes. The rounded shell toe means that there seems to be a lot of space here, but the shoes fit really well and are extremely comfortable.
Now, as a girl, used to wearing wee flat pumps, Converse and dainty high heels, Superstars can feel a little bit clumpy at times. They are thick, fairly heavy and quite wide around the toe so it takes a little bit of getting used to. However, they are so incredibly comfortable. I can vouch for this because I have nightmare feet. I have skinny, narrow heels and ankles and really narrow feet with high arches. Hardly any shoes are as comfortable as these! They have never given me a blister; they have never given me sore feet. They are always comfy and soft and easy to walk for miles in.
My fiancée has had the same experience. His Superstars are the most comfortable shoes he owns. He wears them all the time because they are so comfortable. The only problem is that he wears them until they literally fall off of his feet.
The first two pairs he had fell apart through complete over use. They were hard wearing, tough, been through all sorts of adventures with him and eventually had to be replaced because they were - to use a good Scottish word - manky. They had mud ingrained in them and they were looking basically, a bit over used. However, the third pair he got at Christmas (a present and running joke from yours truly) has actually started to come apart at the soles. This was a complete surprise for us because this has never happened before. Mine are still going strong after 4 years and his very well worn pairs certainly lasted through much more use than most trainers would.
I am not sure how or why this latest pair have given up the ghost so quickly. The sole was literally flapping off after about 4 months. It looks like bad workmanship on the shoes to be honest. It is disappointing and especially annoying as I did not keep the receipt, such was my faith in the product.
My mum's Superstars were bought around the same time as mine and again, they are completely fine. We are at a loss as to whether Adidas have perhaps begun to skip on production value or maybe this was a one off fluke. I'm leaning towards the fluke because so many people have had such great wear out of these trainers.
~~~ Conclusion ~~~
These are still my favourite trainers of this kind and I will continue to wear mine. After the falling apart fiasco my fiancée has bought I different style of Adidas trainers which are also very comfortable. I think that these are an excellent, comfortable trainer which are good for general sport/walking etc. They are usually excellent quality and feel really good on.
The one thing I would say is that if you buy a pair, keep your receipt incase anything happens because although they are a very well trusted, high quality brand, the unexpected can happen due to poor workmanship.
I was going to give these shoes 5 stars for excellent comfort, value and durability but because of what happened with the latest pair, I am deducting a star.
Adidas Superstars are available from most sport shops and online. Prices vary according to style, size and whether it is men's, women's or children's. My advice is that if you have up to size 4 feet, check out the children's ones first as they are always cheaper even although they are exactly the same!
There are trainers you have for doing sports in and then there are trainers that you have to just generally walk about it and be comfortable in that are not designed for sports and I would have to say that this pair of shoes falls into the latter category. I have had a pair of these shoes for a number of years now but have replaced them a couple of times as they got old and worn out.
Now that I have kids I need a comfortable pair of shoes to be able to wear while I am chasing after them that still look nice and stylish and go well with a pair of jeans. Little ballerina style shoes are fine but when you need something more substantial but not big and heavy trainers then these shoes are perfect. THey are also some of the most comfortable pair of trainers I have ever worn. They have a really nice padding inside to them and especially around the heel and ankle and I think they support my foot really well. You can see the cushion like padding around the ankle as it is coloured pink like some of the other accents on the shoe and I think it adds a bit of style as well as a nice hold to your foot. It really moulds to the back of your foot. I like that the sole on these shoes is completely flat which makes them very easy to walk in. The sole is quite thick though as you can see it has about an inch of thickness to it so again you get a bit of comfort and padding and not just a flat thin sole which does not really protect your arch at all.
These trainers are really good looking in my opinion. They are white and made of a synthetic leather. I find them quite easy to keep clean and do have a little trick/tip for cleaning them. You can wash off scuff marks with a wet towel or a baby wipe but sometimes if they get a bit discoloured I use a bit of Jif (I think its called Cif now) and this brings back the natural whiteness of them which is great.
The front of the trainers has a very rounded toe which I find keeps your toes nice and gives them lots of space and doesn't cramp them in any way. I also really like the look of the rounded toe and think it looks nice under a pair of jeans. The trainers have the famous three Adidas stripes on each side of the shoe. Depending on what colour shoe you choose you get a different coloured stripe. I have the pink pair of trainers so my stripes are pink. The shoes have laces to do them up and I like that once they are tied the laces are quite short so you do not have lots of lace hanging around.
The shoes retail in the £30-£40 mark but it is definitely worth shopping around because as these are a classic trainer then will often be on sale in various sports shops.
All in all a nice everyday casual trainer.
I bought these shoes a few months ago from the Adidas Clearance store for £12 and then saw them in a sports shop a few weeks later selling for £60, so I got a very good bargain.
These shoes have very thick laces but they it is still easy to pull them tight. The sole of the shoe is not particularly supportive so these should only be worn for leisure purposes and not exercising. They are very girly and they come in white and pink. These shoes don't have the inbuilt support that the Adidas running shoes have but then again they aren't made for running.
One bad point to note is that I find the design of these shoes makes them slip off the back of my heel. However, I can still wear them as long as they are pulled very tightly.
This type of trainer also comes in men's colours and sizes which are sold at many different sports shops and the official Adidas website.
I would recommend these trainers because they are very comfortable and they seem to be long lasting although I haven't worn them much. They do seem to be a very solid shoe that will last a long time.
*Adidas Superstar 2 Trainers*
The trainers I will be reviewing are the Superstar 2 Trainers from Adidas. They are available in toddler, junior and ladies sizes up to size 9 depending on where you buy from. For the purpose of this review, I will be discussing my pair of ladies trainers.
*Upper - leather/synthetic
*Inner - textile
*Sole - synthetic
These trainers are suitable casual or gym wear. They feature a moulded sole and soft ankle collar for comfort and protection. The design of the trainers includes the Adidas logo on the tongue and heel. The trainers feature a typical Adidas 3 stripe design at either end and the stripes are pink with a silver, jagged trim. The trainers are lace up and also feature a rounded, shell appearance toe. These trainers are white with pink details.
*Availability and Price*
These Superstar 2 trainers can be bought from www.sportsdirect.com in sizes 3.5 - 8 in the ladies range. They are priced at £44.99 but the original price is £59.99. They are also stocked on Amazon for just £29.99.
I have to admit, I do not get along with laces and often buy trainers with the velcro tabs - not good considering I am nearly 25! Having rather large feet - I am an 8 1/2 and a 9 with wide feet, I very rarely have the opportunity to buy pretty pink, girly trainers and usually end up with boring mens trainers! Back in February, I was scouring the shops for a new pair of trainers and spotted these Superstar 2's in that rare size 9! I bought them but can only locate them in an 8 now! They are priced perfectly and cheap for Adidas so are a bit of a bargain!
I was lured in by the shiny pink stripes and totally ignored the fact that they were lace ups. Having owned these for nearly 4 months, I am ready to go back to velcro tabs but these trainers have been well used. When new, they look very smart - bright white with gorgeous, girly pink stripes. The laces were neat and tightly weaved into place with plenty of lace left over to tighten and tie the laces in a neat bow. The laces are thick an of a high quality. These trainers didn't take much 'breaking in' and didn't cause major blisters like some do.
As I bought a size 9 pair, one trainer is a little loose compared to the other but this isn't really an issue. They fit comfortably and stretch to accommodate my wide feet. They are of a high quality and are finished well with comfort being high up on the list of qualities. Considering I wear my trainers daily, they need to be comfortable. The sole is nice and thick with good grips and this allows me to walk around comfortably and not feel every stone under my foot.
The trainers moulded well at first and my toes never felt constricted. The thicker edges of the trainers allow my feet to remain comfortable and protected though everyday use has resulted in the inside of the heel becoming a little worn and not as generous with comfort as a new pair of trainers would be. They look neat when I wear them and are perfect with my trackie bottoms or joggies/shorts. Despite having big feet, these trainers do not look clumpy or clown like!
The trainers do begin to lose shape after a few months. I have gave up on the laces and now tuck them in but they do not stay there for long! The edges of the trainers have widened a little too much and my feet feel a tad loose hence why I am looking for a new, more supportive pair for my next purchase. They have been put through the paces during long walks, gardening and shopping trips. They do get dirty but are easily wiped over. I have had them in the washing machine a few times and they have come out well with no tears etc.
Perhaps not up to the standard of the most expensive Adidas trainers, but they are fine for everyday use. I do not find them supportive enough for heavy gym use or running but for walking they are perfectly acceptable. They no longer look their best which is to be expected but I want a new pair soon before these give up and go to trainer heaven. They are fairly well made with no dodgy stitching etc and the sole is hardwearing. They have lovely pink bits too which I love and are very feminine.
Thanks for reading :)
