Let's make it clear from the beginning - I'm not a skateboarder. I have tried a number of times and on each occasion, I have failed spectacularly. Therefore now being in my 20's I've decided on giving up on being the next Tony Hawk.
That being said, I've always been a fan of skate trainers because of their durability and comfort. I've always gone with Etnies, or a German brand which has now unfortunately closed, called Buffalo. In fact, the Buffalo trainers I owned are by far and away the most comfortable things I have ever put on my feet. That being said, I decided to shop around for my next pair.
Living in London means there are no shortage of shops that stock more skate trainers than you can shake a stick at. I am very picky when it comes to trainers. Not only do they have to look good, they have to fit properly. There's nothing worse that ill fitting footwear, I have made that mistake before! After a good couple of hours I found a pair of 'DC Chase' trainers. As soon as I put them on I could tell they were a great fit, luckily enough they look great too. At £49.99 I snapped them up, some skate trainers go for a lot, lot more than that!
The whole upper of the trainer is a suede/leather combination with the DC logo stitched in towards the outside heel of each foot. The laces are a great length, which seems a picky thing to look at, but I find it very frustrating when the laces provided are too short for me to tie the way I like. No problem here, the laces are spot on. The tongue is very well padded and helps provide great support for the upper foot and remains comfortable on your feet for hours on end. Although these are low cut trainers and not ankle height, the heel provide great support for your ankles while remaining supple enough to not hurt your feet as you walk, that's not an easy trick to pull off.
I've had my pair for just over a year now and, apart from a few expected scuffs and stains, they are in fantastic condition. The soles are extremely durable, which makes sense being a skate trainer! The leather uppers are solid and have not come away from the sole side wall at any point on either trainer. I've not had to replace the laces either so these trainers are in original condition after over a years wear. For a penny under £50 that represents fantastic value all round.
Highly recommended footwear; whether you are a skater or not. Two big thumbs up!
