A pair of trainers for all occasions.

I bought my pair of Vasque's after my North Face trail running trainers fell to pieces within a year. I was looking for a pair of trainers that would be suitable for several occasions. Firstly, they would need to be an everyday trainer for dog walking and light stuff at work. I would be in them for several hours a day walking many miles over the course of the day.

The second use was to be suitable for my martial arts class so they needed to be durable, lightweight and not bulky. I didn't realise at the time but I would soon start cross-country running in them too.

I had not heard of the company "Vasque" before in any way shape or form but after reading several review type websites (like this one) I noticed someone mention Vasque and they seemed to rate them. So, I had a look for them online and found out about this particular shoe. They were pretty difficult to track down a UK supplier but found them available from Outdoorkit.co.uk.

I saw that goretex was used in their construction. This is invaluable as I have the same routine day in day out, no matter what the weather. I have worn them in the rain and found that my feet remained dry, the trainer dried out proper quick, and that they didn't lose traction in on wet clay soils. I can wear them all day then go and run a few kilometres or do 2 hours of Krav Maga withing my feet feeling anything but comfey. Maybe they can get a little warm inside them but I don't think for the price that you could expect your feet to feel cool after working out.

I think that the style lends itself to being able to be worn out and about. Obviously they won't fit the smart casual type market but they are pretty non-descript and so wouldn't look out of place in the pub or most clubs to be honest. But then again I don't really go to clubs.

The overall workmanship feels of high standard. I drag them through brambles regularly and none of the stitching has started to fray yet. The heel support feels sturdy and well cushioned and even after only wearing these for 4 months, I can tell they are better quality than North Face equivalents.

I would certainly recommend these trainers. The spiel on the Vasque website says that they are tested on all sorts of "hardcore" terrains like the Appalachian mountains or whatever they are called. I guess in 8 months time I will be able to follow up with how they feel then.
