As a family we all love the great outdoors. It is important to have the right equipment before setting out for any serious hike or camping trip to save it ending in misery! I like to shop in Millets as I think they have reasonable prices, good customer service and a god range of products that meet our family's needs.

Millets shops can be found on many high streets throughout the UK and online. They stock all manner of outdoor clothing including waterproof jackets, fleeces, walking boots and waterproof trousers. They also sell lightweight items such as walking sandals and even crocs! Clothing is available for women, men and children although I think there is far more choice in the mensware section!

In addition to clothing Millets sell a range of tents and camping equipment. I have just purchased 4 new sleeping bags to replace our very old ones. Millets sell well known branded items such as Berghaus and outwell as well as their own cheaper brand of Peter Storm and Eurohike.

In the winter months Millets have a good selection of clothing for skiing. I bought a pair of waterproof gloves last winter and am very pleased with them. I have also bought thermal underwear for both my children for a recent trip to Finland and they stayed warm and cosy.

Millets prices tend to be mid-range. I like their own, makes and think the quality is excellent and every bit as good as more expensive brands I have experienced. It is worth watching for sales and promotions, as these are frequent and getting more so in these difficult trading times. Today there is a buy one item and get another half price, hence the sleeping bag trip!

I have always found the staff in our local Millets very friendly and helpful. They are very knowledgeable and always go out of their way to give me advice. I recently wanted a pair of sandals for my son and as they had sold out the staff offered to order me a pair form a nearby branch. There was no cost for this service. I really can't imagine the likes of Tesco being so helpful!

On occasions I have needed to return an item. This has always been problem free and the refund received back onto my card quickly. This certainly gives me confidence when shopping in the store!

The only real negative I can think of is that the shops tend to be small. Our local store only has one changing room and you often have to wait some time for it! However it is clean with a seat and good lighting.

Overall I would recommend you give Millets a try if you need any item for the great outdoors, you could do a lot worse!
