Millets are part of the same group as Blacks and together the pair dominate the high street when it comes to hiking and camping gear, of the two I find Millets to be the slightly cheaper while Blacks go for a wider range of brand names.
Millets are excellent for getting all the basics, they stock a lot of Peter Storm, Berghaus and North Face clothing and they always have some pretty good offers on when it comes to fleeces and jackets, they have an excellent range of clothing and something for all shapes and sizes.
My last pair of walking boots came from Millets as well and were nearly half the retail price which was an excellent purchase and they are extremely comfortable.
You can also buy bigger camping items from them such as tents and sleeping bags howeverthe stores typically are not very big so you do not get to see the tents put up, for that you need to visit the larger specialist stores like they have in the Lake District but for basics they are very good and if you get the right staff member they can be very helpful.
They are good on price and if you are a member of the YHA you will get a further 10% off purchases with them. I must admit I always check them out when I'm in town as they have some great bargains and I love checking out the new gear.
