Tesco Value Lemon Curd
by quissue
This is the very basic Lemon curd I bought from Tesco for want of something sweet. The outer labelling has recently changed but the Lemon curd I bought was still of the Value range. The new and improved labelling is quite plain with a white label with orange writing across it detailing the fact that it indeed comes from Tesco and it is ... of their everyday basic range and Lemon curd.
Simple concise packaging with clearly visible lemon curd in the jar with a nice bright orange lid.
Nothing special about the packaging keeping this item as cheap as possible at 23P.
Wonderful so far then, no quibble about the jar or price I take it home and try it on toast, I am assailed with flavour, a pungent aroma of lemon, a taste which is tart and sweet at the same time and very lemony. In fact quite delicious despite the very cheap price. I was surprised, as I thought it cannot possibly taste very good being such a low priced item and most lemon curds from jars that cheap taste awful. But to it's credit it was not at all bad. I have now made a lemon curd tart to have with my tea and of course sneaked a little taste test. Yes ! Brilliant just as I was hoping for it worked well in that too.
OK so it is never going to be as good as the homemade version which I have to admit I love but haven't for one reason or another made in a while. Sadly something I will have to rectify at some stage. But with this little wonder working so well and so cheaply is there any reason too other than the ultimate taste challenge.
This little jar of wonders is going to find it's way back into my cupboard, as a standby for when I am just too lazy to make the real deal, but as it tastes really nice and lemony with a sharp backbite I am not sure when I will be making the real thing. Read the complete review |

Tesco Sandwich Filler
by annav
I dont have a lot of time in the day to do anything let alone make my lunch in the mornings. I do it the night before, and to save even more time I always buy a tesco sandwich filler each week. You can get a large box or a small one, and there are many flavours. The best is chicken and bacon, which only comes in the small size, lasting ... around 3 days worth of sandwiches if you dont spread it too thick. My other favourite is tuna, sweetcorn and mayonnaise. They are quite healthy, although they do contain mayonnaise and its not low fat. You can also get coronation chicken, egg mayonnaise, and many others, they often introduce new flavours.
It costs between £1.40 and £1.90 a pop, with the large version coming in at £2. Theres also a deal on most of the time for £2.50 for two small tubs. If you add this, a loaf of bread and some salad, it comes in cheaper than buying a lunch everyday, and you can make your sandwich as big or small as you like. It tastes much better, fresher and is really easy and quick to use as you just scoop it out of the tub with a spoon.
If you get bored of eating bread, they also make a great filler in salads.
The chicken one comes with actual chunks of chicken and and bacon so it has a nice texture.
If you like to have a tasty homemade lunch, but want to save time making it and cant be bothered to buy all the ingredients then I can recommend any of these sandwich filler flavours. Once opened they last at least 3 days before they turn. Read the complete review |

Tesco Butter Me Up
by xxfoxyredxx
The other night I was in Tesco and remembered I needed some spread. I love sandwiches and toast and the likes and the thought of having no butter or spread of some type in makes me shiver....dried bread...yuk!
I picked up a tub of this and it cost me £1.00 which I thought wasn't bad value for something called Butter Me Up and ... hoped it had a buttery taste without all the dreaded fat content!
The Packaging:
This comes in a yellow plastic tub an on the top of it and on the sides of it we are told what it is and who it is by and other information such as an at a glance nutritional chart is given, the best before date is clearly displayed, we are told what it can be used for and there is a clove rpricture scene shown then on the base of the tub we are told that it is suitable for freezing, ingredients and allergy advice is given as is the size stated (in this case I have a tub that holds 500g of the product in front of me), a full nutritional chart is displayed and contact details for Tesco are given. Nice enough tub, the lid pulls on and off with ease and when you first get it you get like a white grease-proof paper over it that you simply dispose of.
The Spread Itself:
On the side of the tub we are told that it is suitable for spreading, shallow frying and to use in making up sauces and I have so far used it with a little cooking oil this morning for frying an egg in and of course for spreading on toast and sarnies!
I keep mine in the fridge to make sure it doesn't go to slop and am pleased with the appearance of the yellowy coloured block that it easy to spread even straight from the fridge. It isn't a sloppy or a greasy spread this one and holds itself well even on warm/hot toast though of course it melts!
Taste wise I really like this! It does have a buttery taste to it, it isn't oily and tastes to me slightly salty which is fine even with sweet spreads such as marmalade and jams, so I assume it is slightly seasoned.
This has 59% buttermilk in it and for a 10g serving of it 55 calories and only 1.8g saturated fat which when compared to others like this with the same sort of buttermilk content that really isn't bad and its worth it anyway as its so nice and creamy! Thumbs up Tesco I like this and will certainly buy it time and time again in the future and I love the fact I can freeze it too!
