      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Worth a try!

      I like houmous but I often find that original houmous dips are quite bland and repetitive, so I have been trying products that add extra flavours to tradition chick pea and sesame seed dip. This particular product adds chargrilled red peppers to the original houmous mix.

      You will find this product in the chilled section of your local Asda store. The plastic pot had a red cardboard sleeve around it with a picture of a large red pepper. The packaging also clearly states that the product is suitable for vegetarians.

      I was impressed because this product is priced at £1 for a 200g tub, in other supermarkets you usually pay more than £1 for this type of item, so this item is good value.

      *************** Nutritional Information ********************

      Per 1/2 pot (100g):

      Energy: 309 cal;
      Protein: 7.0g;
      Carbohydrate: 10.6g; (of which are sugars: 1.4g);
      Fat: 26.5g; (of which are saturates: 2.5g);
      Fibre: 3.4g;
      Sodium: 0.23g.

      Ingredients: cooked chick peas (41%) [chick peas, water]; vegetable oil; chargrilled red pepper (15%); sesame seed paste (11%); water; lemon juice concentrate (4.2%); garlic granules (0.7%); salt.

      Other nutritional information: This product is suitable for vegetarians, it contains sesame seeds and may contain other nuts / seeds. It is also free from artificial colours and artificial flavours.

      *************** Taste ***************

      When I opened the tub I noticed that it had quite a runny consistency, this made it easy to spread onto pitta breads and crackers.

      The dip itself has a pink colour to it and you can see the roasted peppers.

      This tastes similar to an original houmous dip with a kick of roasted peppers. The roasted red peppers compliment the taste but they don't overpower the dip. The red peppers provide a subtle addition to the overall taste.

      The only disadvantage to this product is that once you have opened it you have to keep refrigerated and eat it within two days.

      Overall I'd recommend this product, the combination of houmous and roasted red peppers is a tasty one. However you should eat this in moderation, as it does have quite a high calorie content.
