A delicious toffee & raisin flavoured honey

I've never really liked the taste of honey, however I recently decided I wanted to try a biscuit recipe that contained it, so on my next trip to Morrisons I had a look at what was available. This took at least 5 minutes in itself as there are just so many varieties on the shelves!

I was drawn to Morrisons 'The Best' Australian Honey because of the description on the jar which says it has a "distinct toffee flavour & a hint of raisin". This sounded very tempting & quite different from any other honey I'd tried, so I thought I might like it. 'The Best' is Morrisons' own higher quality range, a bit like 'Tesco Finest'. As such, it is a bit more expensive than buying the supermarket's own standard honey, but still cheaper than most brands. It cost me around £2.40 for a 340g jar.

To help you spot it amongst the many jars on the shelf, the label is silver in colour, with 'The Best' written on a black background at the top, & the name 'Australian Honey' underneath on the silver part.

This honey is a clear, thick liquid with a pleasant deep amber colour. Its smell is similar to most honeys but richer & with a noticeable scent of raisins. I was very pleased to find that, unlike with other honeys, I really like the taste of this one. Although it still has a recognisable honey taste, this is combined with a definite toffee flavour along with a hint of raisin, making for a very pleasant yet not too sickly honey. And it makes really tasty biscuits!

The ingredients are very straightforward: according to the label, it simply contains 'Australian honey'! It's nice to see a product with no unnecessary additives, & in fact a product sold as honey is not allowed to have anything added to it. It will have been processed in some way (e.g. filtered & heated) but it doesn't say anything about that on the jar.

Per 20g serving, this honey contains 61 kcal & 16g sugar, & only a trace of everything else. Some people may complain that it's high in sugar but then what do you expect, honey is basically sugar! Just eat it in moderation.

The 'best before' date is around 18 months away from when I purchased the honey so it lasts very well. It should be kept at room temperature.

The label also reminds you that honey is not suitable for children under 12 months.

I definitely recommend trying this honey!
