A great mayonnaise that does not contain egg.

If, like me, you are allergic to eggs, finding things like mayonnaise is not easy.

I tried many different brands of egg-free mayo, some of which were OK, some not so good. Then I found Plamil in my local health store and never looked back.

Plamil is the closest alternative to Hellmans that I have found, and is a lovely thick mayo with an excellent flavour. I used it on salads and make sandwich-fillings with it. The addition of garlic to this particular mayo adds a lovely kick as well and is great in all kinds of savoury dishes.

Price-wise it is much the same cost as Hellmans, at about £1.95 for a 315g jar and keeps fresh in the fridge for a month after opening, though it doesn't last that long in our house! Plamil also make mayo without garlic too, and have other flavours such as tarragon and a chilli one, though I haven't tried those yet. I daresay you could add any flavoring of your own choice to this mayo if you wanted.

So, if you can't eat eggs but want a good mayonnaise then do give Plamil a try.
