My mum buys this, on the rare occasions that she treats herself to an excursion to Sainsburys. The packaging looks suspiciously like Lurpak, or is that just my imagination? It is probably in the same colours to lure unsuspecting customers into buying in, then when they get home they will be shocked, try it and maybe buy it again. For just under the two pound mark it undercuts some of the leading brands. I quite like Lurpak, though I usually plump for margarine, just because it is cheaper. As food continues to go up in price, I have been searching for cheaper alternatives to my usual brand names. My choice for butter/margerine was usually Lurpak Spreadable slightly salted which is not the healthiest choice (due to the added salt), but something which I enjoy whether it is on toast, spread on a sandwich, or in cooking. I decided to try Sainsbury's Buttersoft as it was the nearest cheaper alternative I could get. Lurpak is now £2.41 for 500g in Sainsbury whereas the Buttersoft is £1.84 for the same amount.
