“ Manufacturer: Sweet'N Low / Type: Butter „
I have gallstones, which means I can only eat a tiny amount of fat. Although I've adjusted pretty well to my new diet, there are certain things I miss. Butter on potatoes is one of them.
A friend recommended these to me and I just had to give them a go. There's only one word for how I felt when I did. DISAPPOINTED. They are supposedly made from butter, simply with the fat removed. They are in the form of a powder which should be sprinkled on hot, moist food (no good for toast then) and come in a plastic cylinder containing 40 sachets. Apparently each sachet contains the same flavour as two teaspoons of butter at just 5calories rather than the 70 that the butter would contain.
When you actually put the powder onto your food, it doesn't melt and to be honest, has a strange synthetic buttery taste. When I looked at what it *really* contains, I found the following list: maltodextrin, enzyme modified butter oil (10%), dehydrated butter (10%), salt, shortening powder, guar gum, baking soda, colouring (annatto and turmeric).
Mmmm, not actually the 'butter with the fat removed' that it's supposed to be.
Give this one a miss. It simply doesn't have the oozy, melty, naughtiness of butter.
