A delicious jam and very fruity.

During a recent rare shopping trip to Morrisons I noticed they sell very small pots of jam costing just £1 for 5 pots.

One I picked up with my selection was a Morello Cherry Conserve made by Wilkin & Son Ltd. There were other cherry varieties on the shelf but it was the old fashioned label on the jar which made me pop this in my trolley.

There is no size marked on this jar, but I'd imagine it would be 25g or thereabouts. I like my jam spread fairly thinly on toast and there are enough for around four rounds of bread in this small jar.

This conserve smells beautiful as soon as I open the lid, it has a very fruity and cherry like smell and I knew immediately I was in for a treat as soon as my toast was done.

I was surprised at the consistency of this jam because it is almost liquid, it has a thick syrupy texture which I could have poured straight from the jar. I was a little concerned about this because I enjoy thick jams, but as I stuck my knife into the jar I realised that it was going to be much more enjoyable than I thought.

The liquidity of the jam is made much more generous by the addition of oodles of pieces of morello cherry. They taste like proper morello cherries too, unlike a lot of jams which add soggy and mushy fruit to bulk themselves out. I would go as far as to say that this conserve of more cherry than jam! My toast looks beautiful with a smear of the liquid and then topped with lots and lots of pieces of cherry.

This is quite a sweet jam, but in a fruity way rather than overly sugary. The only thing I can taste throughout the conserve are the cherries, and this is fine by me because cherry is one of my favourite flavours ever. This tastes like a homemade jam and is much fruitier even than Hartleys Best jam, which is also excellent.

I love this jam and shall continue to buy it in the small jars, as soon as I find out where to buy the larger jars then I shall switch to them as I doubt I will waste any as this Morello Cherry Conserve on Weight Watchers bread has become my favourite snack. There is just 1/2 a Weight Watchers point in 2 tablespoons of jam so it's not going to quash my healthy eating routine, while still providing me with something tasty and sweet.
