Advantages: good allrounder

Disadvantages: bit out of date

It's a SCSI controller and there's not a lot to say about that. The BIOS is the same old Adaptec BIOS and it works just dandy when trying to find , configure and control those rogue SCSI devices. The card itself is a PCI card and when installed is detected just dandilly by Win 98 and Win NT alike. The drivers install without a hitch and you can get on with installing your peripherals. The included SCSI-explorer software for windows is a bit of a boon but nothing special. If you're looking for a basic all-round SCSI card tog et you going I'd go this this without a doubt. If you're looking for advanced stuff like RAID, etc then expect to pay more. Please don't forget that although SCSI si good E-IDE is cheaper and it catching-up speed wise.

I agree, I've never had any problems with detecting the controller, even after serious board failures. Win2000 Advanced Server even caches the previous state information automatically which is cool. I think you are right that it is a little out of date now. Price is beginning to be a bit of an issue even with larger companies, especially as Win2000 is being rolled out (more servers required). So I think this will be a redundant product especially in RAID configurations as Adaptecs IDE RAID controllers generate more interest.
