This works very well and like most other scsi cards, boots up with the windows 98 or se bootdisk, so this means when you have to start from new with nothing on, your computer the windows system disk sees the adaptec scsi card so inturn it will see your cd rom drive if the only cdrom in your machine is a scsi type. So installation of windows went right first time as the windows cd rom disk needs to be seen by your cd rom before you can install it on your hard disk drive. This card, as you expect will entitle you to be able to use SCSI devices within your computer. A SCSI device is faster than the normal IDE interface. This means the harddisk can be accessed quicker, as can CD Rom drives etc. This card was easy to install, with a good manual. The only problem I encountered when installing was having to bend the top of my card to fit my case. (That reminds me, I need to upgrade my case!) Once the card was installed in the back it was a simple case of loading it up. Installing the drivers were as easy as cake. It's a SCSI controller and there's not a lot to say about that. The BIOS is the same old Adaptec BIOS and it works just dandy when trying to find , configure and control those rogue SCSI devices. The card itself is a PCI card and when installed is detected just dandilly by Win 98 and Win NT alike. The drivers install without a hitch and you can get on with installing your peripherals. The included SCSI-explorer software for windows is a bit of a boon but nothing special. If you're looking for a basic all-round SCSI card tog et you going I'd go this this without a doubt. If you're looking for advanced stuff like RAID, etc then expect to pay more. ...
