I have never had to do one before and I honestly didn't really know what to expect. Although I think it is a skill that you pick up (or at least I am hoping it is), I get the impression that art history undergrads do slide tests as part of all their other courses. So they all actually learn how to do them unlike me. Now at the completion of the course I can assure you all that slide tests are definitely a skill that you learn. Having never done art history, or any other history at university level, I was not really sure what to expect when I first enrolled on to this course. But the course so far has been incredibly interesting. I never realised how much information was available by simply looking at the illustrations of religious texts (such as psalters, apocalypses and books of hours) from the medieval ages (mainly the 13th century).
